JOHN G ROSSMAN RUSSEL R MYERS Supermfendenr gf Schools Pruncupal Roosevelt Hugh School Gazung Down Huglmroad 1933 1934 I We pause on the footpath of the year nuneteen thurty three and nune teen thurty four to look backward and to vuew the road we have made and then to plunge on breakung the earth for the new roads that are to come We have been glad of lufe we have found the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars I Standung at the begunnung of the road we found one thousand three hundred and forty three students wautung for the uourney to begun Sux hundred and nunety seven were senuor hugh school students whule sux hundred and forty sux uunuor hugh school students were also wautung to travel down the same pathway I Late un September the senuor class unutuated the furst school Tag Day un order that students un school mught become acquaunted Every student wore a tag desugnatung hus name and class Tag dances for the Junuor and Senuor Hugh School were greatly enloyed by everyone I October came' We sughted the Froluc whuch was guven to benefut the General School Fund The Senuors obtauned permussuon from the Faculty to sponsor thus Froluc Roosevelt corrudors were changed unto a Worlds Faur Mudway Cen tury of Progress Concessuons fur nushed a gay evenlng to Frolsc guests I Musuc students crowded unto the Instrumental and vocal organuza tuons guvung them the largest en rollment the department has ever had Two hundred and seventy fuve students were enrolled un unstru mental organuzatuons Two hundred and suxty eught sungers made up the organuzatuons un the vocal depart ment These organuzatuons cooper ated un presentung the furst Chrust mas Vesper Concert on the Sunday before Chrustmas Musuc organuza tuons presented outstandung per formances for the Sprung Musuc Festuval The All Cutv Concert wuth Washungton Hugh School The Band Concert and the Thurd Annual Showdown I Roosevelt sent twenty three or chestra members and twenty four sungers to uoun other students un the Chucago area un makung up the ln and About Chucago Orchestra and Chorus These organuzatuons the chorus conducted by Robert Lee Osborn and the Orchestra con ducted by Wulluam Revellu per formed before the Natuonal Musuc Supervusors Conference un Chucago un Aprul I Sunce the school year was short ened ut was necessary to change the club hour from the advusory peruod to a peruod after school I spute of thus fact the Eduta Senuor l-lu Y C B C B Junuor l-lu Y Junuor Page Twenty four Complumenlf of Iumyer D Kennedy I I l Q - I - Il ' ll - - . , . ,, . . . ,, . . 1 - .
