w!mamimBaii!it-:iimmim BOYS AND GIRLS STATE DELEGATES Boys State and Girls State are citizenship programs sponsored by the American Legion and Auxiliary. The aim of the programs is to awaken a sense of individual obligation to the community, state, and nation amongst young people. The program is a learn by doing ' process. Boys and Girls State sessions are held the week after school is out at the California State Fairgrounds and the UC at Davis Campus, respectively. At Roosevelt, this may well be considered the highest honor given to a student in his junior year. Selection is based on scholarship, citizenship, and exceptional leadership. Only one girl from each junior class in California high schools may have this honor. However, as many boys from one high school that meet the requirements and are sponsored b an American Legion Post may participate in the mock government. Approximately 500 girls and 800 boys participate in this annual citizenship program. Activities besides governmental affairs, include sports, and individual interest and talents. At each session two boys and two girls are selected to represent California Boys and Girls State at Boys and Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. Terry Delgado was active as Larkin County Recorder and Tory Party Cheerleader in mocl government. Castuio de la Rocha. outstanding citizen of the city of Fremont served as Howie County Supervisor in Mythical State AIIkt! Johnson engaged mainly in city politics as Councilman in the mythical city of Larkin.
