THE Housta WE LIVE IN has a sign over the door, HALL WEL- COME. Wlien we chose this greeting' little did we realize that we were opening our door to the crossroads of the world, as at that time national groups seemed so far away that it would be impos- sible for so many different peoples to wend their way by our humble abode, but with the change of time and the advent of travel by air. we now have at our fireside the peoples of the world. ln the friendly chats that are carried on around the glow of our hearth, we have discussed philosophies and customs, and we End that people are not as different as we had supposed. We have learned that we are an integral part of a world organization that must develop a common ground on which the peace of tomorrow can be builtz therefore we chose wisely when we said 'Af'-XI.I. I I I RosE TAYLOR STELTER, Qirls' cUice-'Principal IF OUR HOUSE is well planned, we must turn out citizens who are capable of dealing with the future, and we must practice in our own minia- ture society the objectives we strive for in a better World. I If our house is to be strong, we must build it on a foundation of human relationships. Here we must practice friendliness, cooperation, un- seliishness, and tolerance and develop the cour- age to sustain us in our beliefs, standing for the things that are right. If our house is to endure, we must carry on the ideals for which We stand, utilizing them out- side of our house and before all people we meet. If we accomplish these things, we have not only built a house, but a boy and a girl and a man and a woman. . THE HoUsE I LIVE IN . . . All the time I am building-building the house I live in-adding to it, tearing it down, improving it, bringing it up-to-date. All that matters is that it becomes more and more livable, more kindly, clean, and sound. The materials I use must be strong, Weathered in wisdom and experience. They must be bound together firmly by honesty. The Whole place must be illuminated by tolerance and understanding. The house I live in may be my home, my school, my city, my country, the world. But the house I live in, first and last, is-myself. GEORGE C. DIRCKX, 'fBoys' CUz'ce-5Pr1'ncipal
