Practice Pays The 1982 girls volleyball team, headed by coaches, Jackie Witty and Jill Kokkonen, and the captain Kim Salo practices hard every day after school. The team was young but experienced with many returning letter winners. The VHS spikers compiled a record of 18-1. The only loss came to Greenway. A few of the seasons highlights included a first-place finish in the Virginia Invitational, a first-place finish in Sub-Region 4 with a 6-0 record, and a first-round victory over Chisago Lakes in the Region 7- AA tournament. The team consisted of 2 seniors, 11 Juniots, 1 Sophomore, and 1 Freshman. With many returning letter winners next year, the team expects to do well again. Off 1. Off And Running Cross country beats de-feet.” That seems to be the motto of the 20 members of this year's cross country team. The team practices each day after school, running up to 10 miles in one practice. They are coached by Greg Miller. The team competed in several meets, including the Swain Invitational - the largest cross country meet in the United States. The boys were led by varsity runners Dan Squires, Tony Kaskisto, Ron Mattila, Tim Koski, Paul Pollock, Jack Swearingen. Dan and Tony placed in the top 10 in several meets. The girls top runners were Connie Weber and Heidi Gerchman, who placed well in many of their races. Many members of the team continue to train through the winter, and are looking forward to an excellent season next year. 1. Help me, you guys, I can't get my hand out! 2. and the race is on! 3. Still Swinging This year's 1982 baseball team had a rather disappointing season but they were up against very tough opponents. The Devils' coaches are Thomas Hafdahl and Les Koppendrayer. Although this year's seniors will be missed next year the remainder of the team plus the newcomers plan to give it their best shot. We're sure their hard work will pay off! 1) Boy!
