CROA S V-.. Carlsons’ reign The 1972 Winter Sports Week brought Tweetie Bird to the Sophomores’ hall. Devil Country to the Juniors' hall, and a short- lived snowman to the Seniors' hall. Besides a hall decorating contest, there was the annual snow sculpturing competition. The Juniors took first place with their monstrous frog and the slogan: CROAK-EM. The Sophomores took second place honors with their bear, and the slogan: EMBEARASS EM.” The Seniors tried hard with their squirrel and nut bearing the words GO NUTS.” On Friday. February 11, in an afternoon assembly, Kay Carlson was crowned Queen, and Jack Carlson crowned King of the Winter Sports Festival. That night saw the memorable Virginia-Eveleth hockey clash and the last second goal (or was it?) by Eveleth—as they STRUGGLED past Virginia, 4-3.

Intramural Sports provided boys not participating in winter competitive sports to still have “fun and games” in the winter. Under the direction of Mrs. Koebensky, GRA provided girls with a chance to really let loose”. Organized into four teams—Art, Sparkie’s Goobers. Flying Hooverettes, and Tough Guys, the girls conducted weekly battles of street hockey. 1. INTRAMURALS M.Drobac. R.Spolar. P.Lambert. D. Thomas. L.Okland. J.PIutt. B.Smolensky. T.Bonner. B. Aluni.
