An evening of mixed emotions. “An Evening of One-Acts. directed by Mr. Turk and presented by the VHS Drama Department, consisted of a unique blend of comedy and gloom. FUMED OAK, a dramatic comedy poking fun at the American family, THE WALL, an intricate story demonstrating the idea that martyrdom always helps a cause, and PYRAMUS AND THISBE, a hilarious tale of two blundering lovers, unfolded on the stage November 5, 1971. 1. The human train Dirtywork at the Crossroads, a typical melodrama, came to life April, 1971, with the hilarious performances of talented VHS students. VHS set designers added to this melodrama with their “rolling river Who else could create a river with two boards, blue paint, and a saw? Even more amazing was the train composed of thirteen human bodies. This chugging choo-choo provided a dramatic finish to the unforgettable Dirtywork at the Crossroads. 1. Virginia hosts one-act play contest This year's one act play contest was set in a town mortuary. “The Burial of Esposito” dealt with the death of a young boy who was drafted, and returned home in a coffin. His father, Nick Esposito, refused to accept his beloved son’s death. The Burial of Esposito” presented a challenge for Director Tony Turk and assistant, Bernice Kishel. It did not place in district competition, but Mike Peterson, as Nick, received an honorable mention for his efforts.
