These kids could even give a tew pointers to the present generation on the not so gentle art ot trustrating parents. With the anticipated thrills and excitement ot the coming ot the I904 World's Fair to St. Louis the young Smiths staged a no holds barred tight against a move to New York. Someone must have told Tootie that the easiest way to get rid ot a mean old boss was to nip, so she did and sent Mr. Dodge on his way. Ludicroux isn't it, that 4' Il daughter Phyllis would dare to dispute 6' 4 papa Dewey's word. Mother Barb lays a restraining hand on the arm ot her over zealous daughter. The rebellious young Smiths were portrayed by Judy Miller as Rose, the oldest daughter equipped with both beauty and a temper. Carolyn Prue, as Esther, was equally resolved to stand her ground. Norma Wingo, Agnes, was a roguish tomboy. Phyllis Anderson, as Tootie, was even willing to bite her way through enemy lines-or legs. New Organization Proves Valuable Asset to School ln the tall ot l954, a small group ot prospective sophomores, who had been trained at a camp during the summer, organized the Roosevelt Chapter ot the Junior Red Cross. ln the beginning the work was handled by only a tew, but as the weeks rolled on, the membership grew until the council was composed ot I8 students. Among the activities ot the tirst council were the enrollment drive, Christmas tavors tor the Pioneer ln- tirmary, the gitt-box drive, and a music album, record ed by the high school's mixed choir and sent overseas. This year's activities included a tloat tor the Home- coming parade, Christmas and Easter 'Favors tor the Pioneer lntirmary patients, an end-ot-the-year candy sale, and another music album. The annual enrollment tor l955, which came very close to lOO percent, totaled S62.5O. This amount went directly to the American Red Cross Service Fund, where it was used by and tor boys and girls only. It helped in purchasing materials for the Red Cross pro- iects as well as supporting the American Red Cross Children's Fund. This year, the Junior Red Cross used an apple tree poster, hung up in the main hall during the drive, to in- crease the membership. On this tree apples ot ditter- ent colors were placed to denote the amount contri- buted by each En lish class. The yearly gi?t-box drive held in February, was a success too. These boxes, tilled by the student body, found their destinations overseas in the hands ot boys and girls who have suttered war privations.
