Lind 0flf4AlL1f A 'f Virginia's football interest took a change in pace this year as new vigor was injected through the appointment of George Bebsy Pepelnjak as new head coach. Assisted by Archie Skalbeck and John Urick, Pepelnjak began a week before school started to mold a squad from eleven returning lettermen. Headed by Harold Paulsen, the Virginia squad gained a strong claim to a much disputed range football championship by virtue of winning five of its seven games. After losing the first game, 13 to 7, to a scrappy International Falls team, Vir- ginia came back with a surprise element to take Stan Kostka's Chisholm prodigees to the tune of 22 to 0. The next week, Pepelnjak' s boys traveled to Grand Rapids to win a 12 to 0 victory. The score, 26 to 6, proved to be Virginia's measure over a fighting Ely team. Virginia's gridders then continued their threshing by cutting down Eveleth, 13 to 0. On the following Friday night, Virginia, attended by a large delegation, took the measure of a strong Hibbing team on a snow-covered field by a 21 to 13 score. Playing under its new field lights, Virginia lost its final and homecoming game, 6 to 0, to Gil- bert, for the Blue and White's second defeat of the season. Paulsen, Hedenstad, and L.
