21 Miss Gulhrandson, :idx iser SENICDRCLASS TTEMPTING to instill in every class member cooperative and dem- ocratic principles of service, the Senior Council formulated a project featuring scholarship, courtesy, cooperation, and respect for school property. To accomplish the aims of the project, the following committees were selected by the Council: the Scholarship Committee, Respect for School Property Committee, Student Opinion Committee, and the Citizenship Committee. All of the committees contributed novel plans of procedure in carrying out their respective duties. The Scholarship Committee encouraged higher grades and better work through the medium of personal letters. The Respect for School Property Committee, by sportsmanlike tactics, instituted a system of supervising the care of school property by secret detectors. The preservation of books was their first objective. The Student Opinion Committee discussed the problems that were uppermost in the minds of the general student body. They also originated a publicity committee for advertising school events in the local newspapers and in bulletins. The Citizenship Committee, in carrying on the competitive basis of work started in previous years, tabulated citizenship ratings and posted the results. To get at a study of actual senior class problems, chairmen were selected from the English classes. These chairmen encouraged the free discussion of school issues and reported the content of any disagreements to the Senior Council for consideration. The work by all participants in class activity nurtured a democratic and whole-hearted spirit of teamwork. Besides attempting to solve certain tangible problems, the class creditably furthered the far more important issues of character development and better citizenship. The Senior Council, headed by Adelbert Smith, class president, super- vised all work done by the project committees. The Council was composed of Adelbert Smith, Paul Tscholl, Iohn Raihala, Iohn Kulbitski, Charlotte Pearson, Evelyn Rutherford, and Harriet Robinson.
