Commercial art students study lettering, poster design and layouts. Metal art, preferred by the boys, teaches them to apply designs to metal and develop skills in the use of tools. There arc also courses in art photography and art ceramics. Understanding and enjoyment of all art forms is a goal shared by all members of this department. Edgar Smith French Judith Newell German JoAnn Olsen Spanish Foreign Languages Students have the opportunity to learn to read, write and speak three languages. In the French, German and Spanish classes the students also study the geography, history and culture of the country involved. Aides used in teaching arc records, earphones and movies. These help the students learn the subject matter faster and make the classes much more interesting. Mr. Smith's students, Lynda Powers, Carolyn Currie, Nancy Killz and Patti Shanks, try out their creative talents by-presenting a skit... done in French. Special Education The special education department is designed to give help to students who have trouble in learning so that they may do their school work in a group where they will succeed and be happy. The datler of typewriters (an be beard seventh period at Mrs. Larson's class bang nut their daily assignments. Business For students going into business, a number of courses are offered. There arc semester courses in typing, business law, record keeping and briefhand. These are all offered for personal use. These courses, along with general business, shorthand, bookkeeping and office practice are offered for a full year. Many students get valuable experience from the Distributive Education Program.
