FAREWELL . . . DORIS POWELSON This year completes Miss Doris Powelson's twenty-fifth year of education in the field of art at Roosevelt. Her education was received in numerous schools including San Jose State, Fresno State, Stanford, University of California and art schools in Oakland and Sacramento. ln her first years she pioneered along with other new teachers. One of her fondest mem- ories is of the entire school sitting in the audi- torium at one time. The graduation classes of l932 and 1935 re- member her as their head sponsor. For many years she was in charge of the Christmas pageant and sponsored the stagecraft class. ln acknowledgment of a job well done we express our thanks to an unforgetable teacher. ANDREW P. JUHL Since the year l93O, Andrew P. Juhl has been in constant service and guidance to the students of Roosevelt. During these 23 years he has taught German, Latin, Geometry, Social Science and Public Speaking. His vast education was re- ceived in the University of Nebraska, the Univer- sity of Chicago, and the University of Southern California. Upon retirement this year he will end sixty years of attendance in classrooms, first as a pupil then as an educator. Over different periods of time he has been in charge of committees on senior announcements, sweaters and rings. Sponsorship of the California Scholarship Federation has been another of his accomplishments. To Mr. Juhl we offer congratulations for his great contributions of time and effort, along with best wishes for future days. Q. Q- 'tx . , R ,. A ,- -.Mp-. s g: Q., My Twenty-five years ago Roosevelt High School consisted of bungalows. The Student Body numbered approx- imately nine hundred. From this modest beginning our school has in- creased to almost twenty-four hun- dred students. This was a six year high school, and to accomodate the large number of students a building now known as East Hall was built. However, the bungalows still re- mained. For years the school had no Gymnasium, or Cafeteria. Eventually one of the finest Gymnasiums in the valley was built. This was followed by a beautiful Cafeteria. Later a swimming pool was added to the campus. Now all that was lacking to complete the school plant was an Auditorium. Indications are that the new Auditorium which can be used by both the school and the corn- munity will be completed in another year. As our campus has grown we have progressed educationally. Roosevelt is a fully accredited Senior High School. Our former students are do- ing well in Colleges and Universities. Others have advanced in the busi- ness and professional worlds and other fields of endeavor. With maturity our campus has be- come more beautiful, and the gradu- ates who Come Through the Win- dows should continue to take their places as leaders in our growing community. Sincerely, W. R.
