The o1d Hibhard Hiqh Schoo1, which had been opened in 1916 under the direction of Mr. Chester A- Dodqe, one of Chicaqas finest and rnost be1oved schoo1- rnasters, had a new honie and a new narnel The new schoo1 was dedicated to Theodore Rooseveh, that dynamic Rough Rider personality, the inspiration of whose spirit has inf1uenced its destiny ever since. In February of 1927, whi1e the contractors were sti11 in the bui1dinq, the paint sti11 wet, and the 1oc1cers yet un- finished, the first students e900 Freshies entered the doors of Rooseveit High Schooi, thrown open for the first time. In May, they were joined by 1500 upper c1assmen, former Hihhard students. Under the supervision of Mr. Iames T. Gaffney and his assistant, Mr. A1fred 1-1. C1ar1ce, and inspired by their IAMES T.
