DRAMA First-year drama students exhibited the acting arts of impersonation and characterization while second-year students concentrated on play study, stage techniques, and group acting. In November Roosevelt hosted the annual Dramatic Arts Festival sponsored by the Hawaii Speech League, inviting all public and private intermediate and high schools to compete in diverse categories. Enacting scenes from plays, students entertained the patients at Shriners' Hospital during Easter vacation. SPEECH Demonstrating their eloquence in storytelling, interpretative reading, original oratory, and choral reading, students took part in the Kailua-Radford Speech Festival and St. Louis- Punahou Speech Contest. Debate students sponsored a car wash and candy sale to fi- nance their trip to the Kauai Debate Tour- nament. Excursions to KHET and KGMB TV stations acquainted students with the differences between educational and commer- cial TV station operations and production. YZ CHUN, MRS. Roosevelt students copped first and second places in a poster contest sponsored by the Hawaii League for Nursing. Students displayed paintings, crea- tive stitching, and figurines in office, library, and Commercial Arts Building showcases. Vy- ing for gold keys, students entered paintings, pencil and ink drawings, pottery, jewelry, and graphic designs in the Scholastic Art Show. MUSIC Glee Club members conveyed the Christmas spirit by caroling for tourists at the Princess Kaiulani, Royal Hawaiian, and Edgewater hotels. Introducing the New Year, the choir sang on the educational network,s broadcast of HPau Hana Years. The orchestra per- formed for members of the English Speaking Union, students at Lincoln School, and tourists at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel at Waikiki. In May, band and orchestra soloists participated in the Honolulu Music Festival at McKinley.
