Third-year classes interpreted foreign literature and circulated self-composed newsletters. At the annual Christmas songfest, students caroled in Japanese, Mandarin, French, German, Spanish, and Latin. Corresponding with pen pals in Europe and the Orient, students familiarized themselves with foreign customs. SOCIAL STUDIES Students became involved with pressing local and international issues by attending the Students for Active Beautification in Hawaii Conference, the Plight of the Cityn Symposium, City Council hearings on Dia- mond Head, Pacific and Asian Affairs Coun- cil seminars, and the University of Hawaii's Listen-in on Vietnam. Visits to Ulu Mau Village and the Bishop Museum supplemented Hawaiiana class instruction by showing the historical influences in present-day Hawaii.
