HORNE Adviser Looming into sight in September of 1953 was the Aloha Tower of Roosevelt, the portals of our new home opened to us. At this time we were awed by the wonderment of new adventures and the maze of new faces. Nestled atop Makiki Heights, Roosevelt began to guide us along the rocky road of learning. School days offered fun and learning that were mixed with a few worries. As Sophomores we were malihi- nis . . . bewildered, yet prepared to assume the responsi- bilities and share in the rewards as Rough Riders. This confusion soon disappeared, for before we knew it, we had plunged into the Howdy Doody Hop, canteens, athletics and exams. Our introductory year came to a close, we were lifted from stations of lowly Sophomores to positions of seeming im- portance. We were whirled through a glorious Junior Picnic and ran head-on into The Blue Mirage , our Junior Prom. As kamaainas we were no longer last to assemblies and rallies, no longer lost sheep wandering about the school in search of precious bits of news concerning school activities which somehow always seemed to be kept from our ears. As underclassmen we envied the Seniors, but at last we reached the lofty heights of The Upperclassmen. We experienced a life that will linger forever in our mem- ories. All our efforts in chemistry and physics experiments, reference essays, Latin coniugations, and exams will be represented by our treasured diplomas. We will always remember that our three happy high school years literally flew by. Some of those precious moments can never be relived, but neither can they be forgotten. Before us is the challenge of a growing Hawaii. May the learning and valuable character we have gained at Roosevelt be applied to the future and may Hawaii benefit as never before. I
