GAIL TANI AGNES ANN SUZUKI SANDRA YAP Editor-imchief Assistant Editor Copy Editor Renaud Up Hurry up with those layouts! They're due tomorrow and we've got two more sets to do! Where are those photogs with my pictures? These are iust a few of the frequent and urgent requests that were tossed around the room every day by the harried Senior editors of the Round Up staff. A pleasant reminder from Gail Tani, editor-in-chief, sent everyone scattering here and there to finish their iobs. Layouts, galleys, copy-these were new vocabulary terms to the iunior assistants, who struggled along valiantly during the first quarter. But as time passed, they soon learned to respect the impending deadlines, to accept new responsibilities, and to work with speed and efficiency. They were taught to keep mum about their work despite the constant prodding of their friends. However, one aim was kept uppermost, above all the seeming confusion: to publish an annual that would be interesting, factual, and enjoyable to the student body as a whole, now and in the future. At last, we are able to present to you, the students of Roosevelt, our 1957 Round Up, a lasting contribution, in the hopes that YOU may have a year to cherish. Supported by an ardent staff, they worked diligently, week after week, one story after another. They were continuously looking for new ideas. Often as one passed the room, noisy with the incessant clattering of typewriters, he would be filled with an anxiety to peek over the shoulders of the typist to see what he was mischievously chuckling about. Squeals of delight and hushed laughter ushered forth from the homerooms every Friday, as students and teachers alike were deeply engrossed in a Rough Rider. The cub reporters were sent hither and thither to interview various important persons. The experiences gained through these errands, and also through rush- ing to meet deadlines and writing interesting stories, gave them a journalistic training that made this activity well worth while. First class honors were received from the National Scholastic Press Association and Medalist Honors, the top award for newspaper distinction in the nation, were awarded the Rough Rider this year by the Columbia Scholastic Press Associations fa-A JO-ANN LAM SHERILYN LIM First Page Editor Second Page Editor HERBERT KIDO Fourth Page Editor FLORIA sANto Business Manager
