MAnGfq,'Z':Z.,,, HORNE SENIOR CLASS HISTORY On the morning of September 5, 1949, six hundred students from all parts of Oahu arrived on the Roosevelt campus for their first high school day. A great surprise was in store for these sophomores. After roll was taken, the Stanford Aptitude Test was administered by homeroom teachers. Thus, this class became the first to take a test on the first day of school. In the midst of all the confusion, they soon found a warm Aloha within their new surroundings. They organized, in each homeroom, a hospitality committee which welcomed newcomers to Roosevelt, bade farewell to those who had to leave, and sent fiowers and cheery messages to students who were seriously ill. This service gained wide-spread interest in the school and is now carried on by a student-body committee. Having carried out all tasks enthusiastically, the class of '52 ended its sophomore year with a successful picnic at the Kalama beach club, where Sam Mokuahi and Martha Gonsalves were elected Mr. and Miss Sophomore Class. With determination and eagerness, 1950's iuniors returned in the fall. That outstanding year of work and play was undertaken with efficiency, dignity, and interest in learning. The Junior Picnic, held on November 18, was climaxed by the Coronation of Robert Haselman and Waonette Silva as Mr. and Nliss Junior Class. On the serious side, Occupational Information, a required course, aided iuniors in the selection of suitable occupations. Guest speakers spoke about iob opportunities at special assemblies. Enchanted Evening, the Junior Prom, was held February 9, 1951, at the American Chinese Club with Sweethearts' Wonder- land as its theme. Marilyn Lunt and Dante Carpenter were crowned as the royal couple of the evening. Leading the five hundred twenty seniors in their last lap were President Betty Ann Rapozo, Vice-President Marylyn Mitsuo, Secre- ' ' ' d C ncillor Janice tary Victoria Chun, Treasurer Kelvin Young, an ou Leong. The capable guidance and untiring efforts of Mrs. Margarite Horne made possible the various activities. Autumn Leaves, the Senior Prom and the first event of the year, was held November 3, at the Ala Wai Clubhouse. The annual Senior Picnic, January 25, concluded with the crown- ing of Mr. and Miss Senior Class-Eric Tuatagaloa and Delthia Colburn. Senior Class Day, May 29, was observed by wearing the class colors, red and white, and the presentation of the class play. The evening was highlighted by a banquet at Lau Yee Chai and a last canteen on the familiar patio. Graduation was held in the early evening of June 8 in the school stadium, decorated for the occasion by the class of '53. Commence- ment Ball the following day drew to a close the cherished days of high school. As the seniors of '52 leave the portals of their Alma Mater, they feel prepared by three years of experience and knowledge to undertake new challenges and different responsibilities.
