Our class, one of the largest in Roosevelt history, was destined to make an outstanding record, for it included many who proved to be leaders in scholastics, athletics, student government, and extra curricular ac- tivities. The first wonderful year was filled with many new experiences, such as that first big dance, the Jupiter Jump. We were informally initiated at the annual Sophomore Reception in the fall of 1954. The following December we sponsored the Crystal Ball. Dur- ing the spring of 1955, we campaigned enthusiastically for our candidates in the Student Council election. We were thrilled when the votes were tabulated, pronouncing John Erikson as vice-president and Mary Jane Nissly as secretary. In the fall of 1955, members of our class proudly exhibited their new class rings. Ideas were collected for torturing members of the class of 58 at the Sophomore Reception. Most of our class participated in the school’s dramatic activities, and we sponsored three one-act plays. At the Student Council election, our class was 100 percent successful with John Erikson as president, Frank Stiltner as vice-president, and Mary Jane Nissly as secretary. The athletic members of our class helped carry the RHS basketball team to the State quarter finals. We sponsored the Senior Farewell for the class of 756. The senior year brought much activity and little spare time fo r we were busy with school organizations , the punishment of trespassers on the senior stairs, yearbook, pictures, dances, fun nights, athletics, and plans for the Big Trip to New York. The last year of high school whizzed by so fast that before we realized it, we were dressed in caps and gowns and march- ing into graduation with mixed sentiments, for the school that had played such a big part in our lives was yesterday. The beckoning future lay ahead of us. Our senior year proved to be a busy one. This is a tribute not only to the fine per- son Miss Crawford was, but also to all of the help she gave to Roosevelt and Ypsilanti Scouts. Miss Mildred Crawford The Boy Scouts, pictured below, and the seventh and eighth grade Girl Scouts, pictured at the top of the opposite page, worked for their higher proficiency badges. The Senior Scouts, pictured with the Mariner Scouts at the bottom of the opposite page, sent three girls to the Regional Girl Scout Convention in Milwaukee. Again this year, they have been fortunate enough to have one of their girls, Pam McClure, selected to go to the 1957 National Girl Scout camp held in Cody, Wyoming. Lucy was delighted from the very first by the clean, pleasant surround- ings, by the regularly scheduled mid- morning and midafternoon “breaks” for relaxing in the company’s com- fortable lounge rooms, and by the opportunities for advancement.
