President Tom Russell Vice President Marian Wood Treasurer Barbara Jones Secretary Yolanda Lulow Class History Looking back we find our highschool years studded with highlights—some of them were impor- tant events, others were just insignificant but unusual happenings that stick in one’s mind. They make us smile a little; they help recall memories of the fun we’ve had together since 1949, our freshman year, when we organized as the class of ’53. That first year, 1949, found us enthusiastically enjoying the fun-nights. We were happy to be included in these informal highschool social gatherings and attended them religiously. When basketball season rolled around, we got a real thrill in seeing our own huskies scoring victories in reserve competition. It was evident right from the start that we were going to be sports-minded with such a fine stock of athletes in our midst. We made our official social debut at the spring party, The Silver Swing, the first big social event on our party calendar. We spent the summer growing up enough to deserve the title of sophomores. The Soph Recep- tion knocked a little wind out of our sails, but after performing for the treacherous juniors, we felt we’d become a full-fledged part of highschool. The Snow Ball, our first venture in party giving and our first formal school party, had us working hard beforehand taking care of the many details. This planning made the party even more fun, for when we arrived decked out in fancy clothes and party manners, we could really enjoy it. Highlighting the spring term was the picnic day spent at Walled Lake, where we all got a thorough jouncing on the roller coaster. Our Junior Year—it arrived so quickly! That year, we flashed our gleaming new class rings with pride. We got revenge at the Sophomore Reception that we sponsored. We participated in the Junior-Senior Play festival with lots of zip and spirit. Giving the Junior-Senior Prom in the spring at the ballroom of McKenny Hall was a special treat. But as we moved into the front rows at the Honors Assembly, we realized that we really were on the home stretch. SENIORS. So much happened in our Senior year that memories just flock to mind and get all jumbled up. There were numerous class meetings. We had so many new responsibilities—getting senior pic- tures taken, deciding on our trip, choosing a senior fad—we were busy. Even the winter months, the ones that usually drag, were busy with plays, basketball, and plans for our trip, destination: New York. We seemed to be in a dream. Our trip came and went in a whirlwind of excitement—then we were walking solemnly down the aisle of Roosevelt audi- torium while our faithful orchestra played “Pomp and Circumstance.”
