They make us smile a little; they help recall memories of the fun we’ve had together since 1949, our freshman year, when we organized as the class of ’53. That first year, 1949, found us enthusiastically enjoying the fun-nights. We were happy to be included in these informal highschool social gatherings and attended them religiously. When basketball season rolled around, we got a real thrill in seeing our own huskies scoring victories in reserve competition. It was evident right from the start that we were going to be sports-minded with such a fine stock of athletes in our midst. We made our official social debut at the spring party, The Silver Swing, the first big social event on our party calendar. We spent the summer growing up enough to deserve the title of sophomores. The Soph Recep- tion knocked a little wind out of our sails, but after performing for the treacherous juniors, we felt we’d become a full-fledged part of highschool. The Snow Ball, our first venture in party giving and our first formal school party, had us working hard beforehand taking care of the many details. This planning made the party even more fun, for when we arrived decked out in fancy clothes and party manners, we could really enjoy it. Highlighting the spring term was the picnic day spent at Walled Lake, where we all got a thorough jouncing on the roller coaster. Our Junior Year—it arrived so quickly! That year, we flashed our gleaming new class rings with pride. We got revenge at the Sophomore Reception that we sponsored. We participated in the Junior-Senior Play festival with lots of zip and spirit. Giving the Junior-Senior Prom in the spring at the ballroom of McKenny Hall was a special treat. But as we moved into the front rows at the Honors Assembly, we realized that we really were on the home stretch. SENIORS. So much happened in our Senior year that memories just flock to mind and get all jumbled up. There were numerous class meetings. We had so many new responsibilities—getting senior pic- tures taken, deciding on our trip, choosing a senior fad—we were busy. Even the winter months, the ones that usually drag, were busy with plays, basketball, and plans for our trip, destination: New York. We seemed to be in a dream. Our trip came and went in a whirlwind of excitement—then we were walking solemnly down the aisle of Roosevelt audi- torium while our faithful orchestra played “Pomp and Circumstance.” STAYTON ADDISON “Cherchez la femme!” Conservation Club 4 Football 1,4 Junior Play Senior Play Tennis Team 1.2.3.4 r=r 7s JUNE ALEXANDER (Junie) “Good things come in little packages.” Annual Staff Cheerleading 1,2,3 G.A.A. 1,2 Mixed Chorus 1,2,4 Junior Play Speech 2,3 JOHN BINNS “No greater love—a Model A.” Baseball 1,2,3 Boy Scouts 1,2 Conservation Club 2,3,4 Home Workshop Club 1 DOREEN BLEASDALE “The lyric sounds of laughter.” A Cappella 2 Annual Staff College Band 2,3,4 RHS Band 1,2,3,4 G.A.A. 1 Girls’ Chorus 1,2 Junior Red Cross 1,2 Mixed Chorus 1,2 Orchestra 2,3,4 Junior Play (Announcer) Rough Rider Staff 1,2,3,4 Speech 2,3 RICHARD BLODGETT “He can who thinks he can.” Basketball 1,2,3, Boys’ Chorus 2 Boy Scouts 1,2 Mixed Chorus 1,2,3,4 Senior Play Rough Rider Staff 4 Speech 3 Tennis Team 1,2,3,4 UN Model Assembly 3,4 A Cappella 1,2,3,4 4 SHIRLEY BRAND “The best way to make a friend is to be one.” Annual Editor 4 G.A.A. 1,2, (Pres. 3) 4 Girls’ Swimming Club 2,3,4 Senior Girl Scouts 3,4 BARBARA BRIEN (Barbie) “Fond of work and fond of fun, she is liked by everyone.” Annual Staff 4 Band 2,3 G.A.A. 1,2 Girls’ Swimming Club 1,2,3, (Pres. 4) Rough Rider Staff 2,3(Editor 4) Senior Girl Scouts 2,3 WILLIAM BROWN (Bill) “Sometimes sad, sometimes glad, sometimes mischievous, but a fine lad.” Basketball Manager 1 Conservation Club 3,4 Junior Play Track Team 1,2,3 (Cap. 4) JANET CHIPMAN “A fine girl and friend so true, if she has faults they’re very few. In addition to the many sports that the G.A.A. girls partici- pated in during the year, they were hostess to the Lincoln girls at a play day. The high- light of the year was the banquet where awards were given out to the girls who deserved them. They also announced the next year officers. President Susie Watson and Mrs. Crouch, advisor GIRLS’ SWIM CLUB The Sinkopators started off the year by presenting their third annual water ballet, “Fishtale Fantasy.” It centered around the theme of children’s stories. In addition to the show, the girls planned a dinner for the boy’s swim team and planned a playday with the Wyandotte and Ann Arbor swimming clubs. i President elect Roberta Magee and President Barb Brien TOP: Jo Greenstreet, Sue Kidd, Nancy Whitcomb, Janice Richardson, Roberta Magee, Shirley Brand, Jeanette Gamber, Cecile Thomas, Nancy Foy, Susie Brien. Senior Stairs Each year a certain narrow, winding staircase consisting of 21 odd steps connecting the second and the third stories of RHS is deeded to the oncoming senior class to use and protect. When a senior yells, Hey--- You!” underclassmen run for cover, for the penalty for trespassing is well known. A summons is served in assembly fol- lowed by a session of the Senior Court to which the defendant may bring his council to plead his case. After the jury brings in the verdict of guilty, the recreants can be seen scrubbing the stairs with their toothbrushes or rolling a tiny piece of chalk along the upper hall with their noses. = or 5 ‘Snapshots, 4 r 0 on —s = tee Dh - i oe = = Sic b) ee Oma’ : = leer | w = a s be oh a = —
