The mercury on that last lirst clay soarecl up to sizzling 900 I . ancl the number of green sophomores matchecl the tc-mpc-rature. Several stuclents attenclecl liclucation Day at the State lfair cluring the First week ol' school. Ont' yell-leaclers were electecl in time lor our hrst lootball game on Sepember 7 against llartlorcl City. .X senior, Nancy lrc-lan: a junior. Barbara liouclreauz a sophomore. Sheila Hieclrick will leacl our cheering section. Nancy will have been conducting scream-sessions cluring all Iiour years ol high school. lVe scorecl the opening touchclown in our hrst game against Hartforcl City ancl another TD the next minute. NYe lost two lootball games cluring September ancl won two- tRochestc-r ancl North juclsonj. The seniors startecl work on their yearbook by having a paper clrive on the 22ncl. OCTOBER. 1951 XYe swung into the familiar round ol' Roosevelt High activities this month. Clubs tavocational. clepartmc-ntal. Sunshine Society. Braves Council, Glee Club. ancl the Stuclc-nt Counc ill plannecl the year's programs ancl welcomecl new members into their organizations. Mrs. Mcllowell ancl her English literature ancl speech classes journeyecl to Purclue University to see a raclio broaclcast. Then. toll. fateful clayfj the encl ol' the lirst six weeks. just hve more six weeks' gracling periocls lelt. The Sunshine girls enjoyecl the Sunshine District meeting at Rensselaer. Mr. l'owlc'n's nilty-fifty bancl macle cjuite a hit at liutler. the sc-concl Saturclay ol Oc tobc-r. ancl the glee club's special chorus performecl at the P.T..-X.: our Tioga Braves battlecl it out on I.ogan's gridiron to almost- but not cjuite. win. Xliss Nlcliee ancl her home economics classes visitecl the bakery ancl liroger's store to stucly purchasing. That longed lor. long awaitecl lio1 ' holiclay on October 25 ancl 213 fState Teachers' .Xssociationb hnally came . . . then we cjttickenecl our pace fancl hc-artbeatsy as basketball practice began. The Tri liappa lioinecliesf' helcl in Stagg-'s Nleniorial Cyni. closes this busy lour weeks with a bang! XIonth'smemories-liill Brown as Little Recl Ricling Hoocl . . . -Receiving the Fall Play books, the try ottts . . . -Dancing classes ancl volleyball games at noon. NOVEMBER. 1951 The lfall Plays took the spotlight this month. NIiggles. Klrs. O'1.ea1'y's Cow, ancl The Ghost Farm -all three proclucecl by the speech class-promptecl their eager auclience to cry, laugh ancl chatter their teeth. all in one night. Remember how much lun we hacl: how scarecl you were just belore the curtain. ancl what a warm feeling of relief swept over you when it was all over? . . . Do you remember the party at Sue Carol's alter the plays? The annual Cuiclance Conference was a success, it was well plannecl ancl organizecl- but it was just another rc-mincler that we were seniors ancl that it wasn't very long until May 23. Mr. Phillips took the sophomore worlcl history class on a very interesting lolll' ol' Europe via his slicles from his Scout trip. XX'e thought Lois clicl hersell' proucl at XVBAA. XX'e beat Tipton in our first basketball game of the season ancl Logan gave us a rough time on November 21 -see you at the regionals, Logan! XYell. we can use another vacation-it's Thanksgiving-ancl the encl ol the seconcl six weeks. Ding, cling was the popular saying this month fnobocly knows what it meantj . XYatch out for that trolley ancl where's Harvey? were on the lips of everybocly. DECEMBILR. 1951 lVe beat Brookston! lVe hacl lots of snow-an ol'lseasonal warm spell too. .Xll who macle the trip were thrillecl by the Macbeth at the Music- Hall-that the wilcl ricle inclnclecl. The heavy snowlall cluring the week before Christmas bunglc-cl a lew plans: the Stuclent Council postponecl their clance. the Tomahawk almost wasn't publishecl ancl we took an unscheclulecl holiclay. The annual Christmas Sing was very beautiful ancl more impressive than ever-the story of the birth ol' Christ. the pilgrimage 01 the XYise Men ancl the joy ol' the shephercls were retold in song by all the school to a large. attentive auclience. .Xs usual the high school glee club remainecl alter the last number ol' the Christmas program. ancl sang olcl favorites ol the season. Our 'l ioga lnclian basketball team brought 1951 to a victorious close by capturing the New Year's tourney - retaining our Crown from last year's victory. Cooclbye 1931. hello 1952-The seniors votecl upon robe colors for their commencement exercises. white lor the girls. royal blue for the boys. The girls began clecicling what shoes to wear ancl what would be nice lor the glee club to sing. Page Fifty-Iwo
