In 1900 Monticello High School occupied the West Building, which was located on the present day site of Lincoln Iunior High School. This red brick build- ing with its peers and cornices was incompassed by a wrought iron fence. In spite of the many windows in the rooms, lighting was defective and the ven- tilation was poor. Today, our High School is a modern, clean and attractive building with all the advantages to en- able students to enlighten and enjoy school life. Roosevelt High School was built in 1939 on a favor- able and convenient lot for expansion west of town. Not only is the High School building new, but a new phase of life is stressed in the classrooms. To learn to become a citizen in school life, family life, com- munity life, in our nation and in the world, is the aim of the school. In addition to the three R's, vocational subjects: shop, home economics, and agriculture are a supplement to the High School curriculum since 1900. What will the next fifty years of improvements bring to our High School? Will atomic fission be taught in Chemistry class: will piloting of space ships be instructed in drivers' training: will construc- tion of pre-fab homes be a project ofjshop class, and will home economics class learn to preserve foods by domestic drying and fast freezing? The answers to these questions are in the hands of today's graduates.
