School Calendar 1949- 1950 17-The Airplane Club was honored by having Mr. Ioe Yauch, prominent business man, speak on some of his trips and experiences in flying. 23-A new class, Effects of Alcohol and Narcotics, was begun for those who wish to take the course. 24-Pep Club sold tickets for the Nipsco Chorus held in the Roosevelt Gym. 26-The Broadcast was recorded on the wire recorder to be broadcast over WASK. 27-Mrs. Henderson spoke to the Economics class on welfare. FEBRUARY 3-4-White County Teachers' Association. No School! 3-The Auto Club took a trip to the South Bend Studebaker Company. 7-The Sunshine Society was entertained by Carmie Dodd, playing the piano and singing Mule Train. 13-Iunior Play try-outs-may the best man win. 13-Home Economics class saw a movie on This Is Nylon. 14-The Home Economics class heard an educational record on Fabric Selection. 18-G.A.A. girls journey to Logan to participate in play day. 23-25-Sectional Basketball Tourney-This is it boys! Brockston travels to Loganspo. 1. 24-Mrs. Dorothy Luthringer spoke to the Health class. 28-The Home Economics class saw a movie on Ironing Can Be Easy. MARCH 4-Regional Toumey-Richland Center. 7-Mrs. Dirks spoke to the Sunshine Girls on Character. 9-Apollo Concert Artist sang before the Iunior and Senior High. 10-A musical was sponsored by the Iunior Class featuring Carmie Dodd and her Hammond Organ. 11-Semi-Finals-Jeff. 13-Seniors were invited to hear Mrs. Garten review Gentian Hill as guests of the Tri Kappa Sorority. 14-Mr. Lockhart spoke on Cooperatives in Economics. 14M-The Airplane Club was entertained by Bob Sullivan on Navy flying. 14-Senior Class was invited to a Rural Youth party at Reynolds. 14-A banquet was held for all the basketball boys and their parents in High School gym. 18-State Finals-Madison. 18-The Sunshine Dance was held in the Lincoln Gym. The music was by the Starlighters, 20-Track practice begins. minor sports. Z4-White County Music Festival. Z8-The Agriculture Club sponsored a pest drive. 31-Iunior Class Play-Iim Clapper and his boot straps! APRIL 1-Dramatics Club attended the Purdue Convocation to see The Taming of the Shrew. by Shakespeare. 6-Roosevelt Speech Contest. 6-Easter Religious Program. 7-10-Spring Vacation-at last! 12-Dramatic Club presented three one-act plays. 12-Home Economics girls were entertained by a record on Fabric and Clothing Care. 14-Kentland Relays-Monti. third. 16-Student Council and all clubs held an election for their officers for next year. 19-Oratorical R. M. D.-Speak louder!-Monti. second. 21-Track R. M. D.-Mlonti, first. We improve with age. . 21-The Home Economics class took a trip to Chicago. 30-Track. Delphi Invitational. MAY l-End Roosevelt Extra Curricular Activities. 4-Open House at Lincoln Iunior High and Grade Building-remember when? 5-Junior-Senior Prom. Those yards of cloth! 5-C. I. C. Track Meet. 12-13-Sectional Track Meet. 15-The Home Economics girls had a tea and style show for their mothers and friends. 17-South Building May Day Program-Memories? 19-Achievement Day at Roosevelt-Who. me? 20-Regional Track Meet. 21-Baccalaureate at Presbyterian Church. 23-24-Final Exams-Is you or is you not? 24-The Business and Professional Women gave a iormal dinner at Purdue for all the Senior girls. 25-No school! 26-Commencement-THE BIG MOMENT!!! 27-State Track Meet.

School Calendar 1949- 1950 AUGUST 15-Football Practice-sore muscles. 29-30-Pre-school Registration CStudentsj. SEPTEMBER 1-White County Teachers Institute. 2-Organization Day-back to the old grind. 5-Labor Day-no school-good start! 6-First Day oi Regular Day oi school-only i?l days to go. 7-Education Day at State Fair which several students attended. 9-Football game-more bruises. 26-Seniors started work on the Year Book. OCTOBER 4-Senior play try-outs. 4-Sunshine Girls gave a candle light initiation for all newcomers. 4-The Braves' initiation: Mr. Finnell, guest speaker. ll-Agriculture Class went to Indianapolis to the Dairy Show. 15-Guidance Start to Chicago. 26-A Braves Council Dance was held aiter the game with both Rensselaer and Monticello students invited. 27-28-State Teachers' Meeting-No School-First vacation! NOVEMBER 1-Sunshine was entertained by some of the members. 1-Rev. McColl was guest speaker for the Braves Council. 7-The Home Economics classes saw a movie on Magic in the Kitchen. 8-New glass basketball bank boards were given to the school by the Band Parents and School Board. 9-Basketball practice begins. 10-Home Economics classes took a trip to Kroger Grocery Store. 11-Senior Class Play, Bolts and Nuts. was a big success. Lights! Camera! Action! 18-Basketball game at Tipton. The Boosters Club paid bus iares of all students who wished to go. Z2-The Future Homemakers Chapter oi West Point visited Roosevelt to install our Future Home- maker Officers. 22-Rev. McColl spoke before the entire student body for the tirst time at the Thanksgiving Program. 24-25-Thanksgiving vacation-Don't eat too much. 28-The Folklore Club met for the iirst time with Iudge Gordon. speaking on the beginning oi Indiana as a state. 29-The Agriculture Class visited Chicago. They visited many interesting sights including the Live- stock Show-sniff-snift. DECEMBER 2-3-Don Gibson and Bill Bond attended the Indiana High School Legislative Assembly at Purdue University. 3-The Sunshine Society gave a Sock Hop in the Roosevelt Gym. 5--Saxophonist, Mr. Cecil Leison. gave forty-live minute concert. 6-Dancing Classes started with the boys' and girls' gym classes meeting together. 8-Speech Class was entertained by ex-students oi Monticello High, who spoke on their liie in college. 16-T. B. patch tests and hearing tests were given by the health nurse. 20-A Religious Program was held for all the students. Father Fosselman gave the Christmas Address and Rev. McColl the benediction. 21-New map charts were bought for American History Classes-where's where. Z2-The Student Council put up the Christmas Tree in the hall. 23-The entire school system presented a Christmas Program. Three Living Pictures were presented while the Glee Club sang. It was very beautiful. 23-Christmas vacation until Ianuary 2. 30-New Year's Basketball Toumey. Monticello played the champion game with West Side, who won, JANUARY 3-Sunshine and Braves met together tor the Battle of the Sexes. Some good points were discussed. 6-Scholarship Exams were given to whomever wanted to take them. 9-Sophomore Class received their class rings-Flash! 9-13-First Semester Exam Week-Ohhhh! 10-The U. S. History Class saw an interesting movie on the White House. 12-14-County Basketball Tourney-Brookston won. 16-Mr. Ross. Keith Flora, and Rex Russell attended the University Club. Dr. Charles oi Wabash College led the discussion. 16-A speaker on Science spoke before the Assembly.
