MONTICELLO SCHOOL BAND The Monticello School Band is made up of fifty six members the different instruments of which are as follows 27 B Flat Clarinets Baritones Alto Clarinet Bases Tenor Sax Trombones Fl ites Horns 11 Cornets Drums The band play ed for the football games last fall the basketball games last winter for the unior and Senior plays and for other school ZICUVIUCS Attending the solo contests this year at Hobart Indiana were lim Monroe fBar1tonej and Leland Foreman CClarinetj im placed second in the district and Leland placed second in the state contest The whole band participated in the district contest at Delphi Sat urday April 19 They competed with Delphi in the BB division Mon ricello placed first and will go to the state contest at Hartford City May 3 HIGH SCHOOL GLEE CLUB The Glee Club composed of thirty three members made their first a program in the Roosevelt High School Auditorium They sang I Am An American as a special number and led everyone in singing God Bless America and The Star Spangled Banner Then they settled down to hard Work studying the Christmas music for the annual Cantata held in the Lmcoln Building The girls sang The Angel Song the boys sang The Holy City A solo Gesu Bambino was sung by Helen Roberts Together they sang God So Loved the World with the junior High Glee Club In conclusion they sang The Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah Their next and last performance for the year was at the com mencement exercises where they sang My God and I a Latvian Spirit ual by I B Sergei and Old Man River by erome Kern The solo part was sung by Iames Monroe Helen Roberts sang Mistress Marg ar1ta by Arthus A Penn Marv Jean Crouse capablv served as pianist durmg the school year I X . - . 7 s H . 5 s . i ' 3 l ' 5 2 1 6 5 y 7 - ' A 9 J 1 . g . , .
