1952 Sascha Wwbw We, the 1957 graduates of Roosevelt High School, began our school careers on a day in 1945. Nine of us began here at Roosevelt with Mrs. Elbert as our first grade teacher. These nine included Nancy Boles, Gloria Gammill, Margaret Crossland, Sue Williams, Anna Moore, linda Davis, Bobo Searsy, Mike Sherrod, and Lewis Jenkins. Lena and Joe Klattenhoff entered our class later that year to come through the next eleven years. Mrs. Tomlinson carried us through our second year and the third year Mrs. Klinger was our teacher. That year Marion and Karion Helm, Gene Ammons and Elva Jones joined our group. Mrs. Currie had a room full of us to teach in the fourth grade and Mrs. Kilgore guided us through the fifth grade. Ours was one of the largest classes in school and we were noted for our boundless energy with Jerry Lackey adding to it in the sixth and having Mr. Mullins as our teacher. we played some fair baseball that year and entered the contest at ldalou. Gayle Bilberry added her bit of energy to our collection of perpetual motion but Mrs. McGowan was able to guide this in the right direction our seventh year in school. We began our basketball training that year. We moved into the eighth grade next year with Mr. Denning as our home room teacher. Some more perpetual motion was added this year named Weldon Boyles. We believe a lot of teachers were glad when we graduated from Grade School. Don't get any wrong ideas, for on our State Tests our norms were high all through these years. Our Freshman year was rather normal. Donnie Pullen registered with us our Sophomore year and Ann Parker came in at mid-term. Bobo Searsy was becoming quite popular with his guitar and singing. As Juniors we blossomed forth with a lot of accomplishments. Nellie McCright and Jimmy Powe were our new additions this year. Mike Sherrod left us in the fourth grade, but moved back into our ranks as a Junior. Both basketball teams were well backed with the members of our class and our scholarship was also high. As Seniors, we started breaking records. Our Senior King and Queen, Donnie Pullen and Anna Moore, brought in more money than any high school King and Queen. The class, still possessed of that bountiful energy, went to work and broke all records making money for our trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Before the year is over we expect to excel in many achievements
