The Brightest Star shines The Christmas dance was held December 29, at the Hotel Fort Des Moines, from 8 to 12 P.M. The dange, though not school sponsored, was organized and paid for by a special committee of 82 senior girls. The Traidmarx entertained the couples in the red and silver decked ballroom. Every student at Roosevelt received a special invitation. Also invited were last years graduating class. The theme of the dance was The Brightest Star. Jani Wren obediently follows her escort, Art Gabriel . While others headed for the dance floor, Jerry Nelson and Tracy Thomas visited with Scott Lynn. i M h it i, Eagle-eyed adults saw that Christmas dance re- velers kept out of trouble. ( Roaring Twenties excit ng motif at Spree The Spinster ' s Spree provided a triumphant finale to the busy activities of Girl ' s Club. The annual event turns the tables on the dating procedure, giv- ing girls a chance to escort their favorite beau in the true spinster spirit. Preparations for Spree began as far back as the summer months before school, with discussion of possible themes by the Girl ' s Club Board. Ac- tual work began early in January when each committee planned a booth ac- cording to the nature of the theme. The theme this year was The Roar- ing 20 ' s, complete with flappers and gambling. In the lively atmosphere of the speak easy couples could buy the latest in garters at Fanny Flappers Fashions or try their luck in the casino behind Mugsies ' Funeral Parlor. Those too tired to dance to the entertainment of the Axe could see silent movies . The highlight of the festivities was the crowning of Man of the Year, Kurt Johnson.
