The only person who seems to sympa- thize with the fate of Monsieur Argan is Toinette, his maid and nurse, played by Marcy Caquelin. In the end, all the characters con- vince Morris that he is only pretending to be sick. After they perform a humor- ous ritual, Morris becomes a doctor and from then on he can cure his own ailments. The first act of the Imaginary Inval- id was later entered in the Iowa Dis- trict Speech and Drama Contest, where it won a 1 rating. The sparkling wit and exaggerated characterization of the playwright Mo- liere, was just as vivid in 1970 as it was L674. THE CAST Monsieur Argan . .
