Excitement is keyword in Homecoming 1970 Dehbi Kerr smiles vivaciously as she is crowned the 1970 Roosevelt Homecoming queen. Maribeth Anderson Deanna Book Five hundred blue and white balloons filled the night sky as Student Council President Jerry Leibold climaxed home- coming week by presenting Queen Debbi Kerr to her subjects. Crowned by football captains Jim Evans and Quentin Thorton at the homecoming assembly October 30, Debbi was joined by attendants Mari- beth Anderson, Deanna Book, Marcia Fitzgibbon, and Debbie Martin, . Ju- nior Martha Hatfield and sophomore Lisa Berry were elected underclass attendants. Excitement mounted during the week, starting with the sale of mums by Girl ' s Club, and grew with the Girl ' s Club skit, Before the Game, present- ed at the homecoming assembly. Cold temperatures and a brisk wind did not hamper the mighty Rider spirit. Key Club sponsored a car bash to add to the fun, and Roosevelt students wound their way to Hutchens Stadium, honking their horns, in brightly paint- ed, ornated cars. Boy ' s Club awarded prizes of $15, $10, and $5 to the best decorated cars . The winners were: first place, senior Randy Cram; second place, junior Cathy Chase; and third place, senior Jane Hutchings. For the first time in 37 years the Roosevelt football team lost to Valley. The Riders were the first to score, but a determined Valley offense won the game 17-6. The loss put a slight damper on the festivities, but spirits were high for the homecoming dance held October 31. Couples danced to the music of The Soul Vibrations in the boy ' s gym, adorned in festive Halloween style. Marcia Fitzgibbon
