Exercise Changes Pace of Academic Schedules In keeping with the state re- quirement for physical education, all students are obligated to at- tend gym or swimming classes at least once a week. Instruction in various sports is provided, as well as a welcome release from the regular classroom situation. Roosevelt ' s female half puts forth concentrated effort in such activities as trampoline stunts and volleyball. Some choose to take lifesaving. Basketball and wrestling con- stitute two activities popular with the boys. Proper development as well as coordination are stressed. Representing the area of general preparation are commercial law, busi- ness math, salesmanship, and com- mercial geography. More specific vocational instruction is provided in bookkeeping, advanced typing, and shorthand classes. Of specific interest is the Distri- butive Education program in which selected students spend their after- noons working for pay, while learning on the job.
