Mathematics is the Basis of All Sciences Have you ever delved into the realms of X and Y or squares, circles, and triangles? For the math student these are everyday experiences. With New Math as the teaching basis, rules are appearing more often to give a student the an- swer to math ' s numerous questions. After all the years of basic mathematics, general math is presented in algebra courses through symbols rather than the use of numbers. Geometry deals with logic and the relationship of space and its dimensions. In the higher math of trigonometry, college algebra, analytical geometry, probability, and statistics, students find new areas of interpre- tation opened to them. This year a new electronic calculator was added to further studies for the probability and statistics students. Now does everyone understand? Does ANY- ONE understand? Science Students Try Hand At Experiments Which Prove Old Truths, Develop New Ones Delving into what is now known and what is to be known in the future, science students studied biology, physics, and chemistry. They learned the principles and reasoning of science through experimentation and evalua- tion. Rubberbands, tickertape, and sand- bags helped physics students deter- mine the rate of acceleration of falling mass. Biologists utilized more con- ventional processes — viewing movies and conducting laboratory work to verify what they had seen. Correct and incorrect actions and reactions were obtained by eager chemists in their attempts to find out about heat and equilibrium. Many young scientists worked hard on special projects and participated in science fairs and exhibits. Students found their new knowledge useful in practical, everyday situations.
