To provide a basis for this comprehension, every student at Roose- velt takes three years of social science. As a background for understanding con- temporary affairs, sophomores take world history. Juniors concentrate on Ameri- can history The science of economics and the study of American problems — in- ternational, national, and local — are ex- plored in the senior year. So that the students will be familiar with recent dis- coveries and schools of thought, most teachers use many supplementary mate- rials. In this way, Roosevelt students will become better prepared to meet their responsibilities as citizens of our demo- cratic society. rhey Learn Each year, several Roosevelt students participate in distributive education, at- tending school in the morning and work- ing in the afternoon. In this way, they gain valuable information on retailing and wholesaling. The Industrial Arts Fair at Cedar Falls is entered each year by many boys working in the industrial arts department. A number of boys make detailed plans and complete several proj- ects, ranging from tables to houseboats. Keep your eyes on the material to be typed; don ' t look into space! Driver Ed Students Learn Safety First put the key in the ignition. Turn it. Now, place one foot on the brake and shift the car into reverse. That ' s the R ' . Right. Take your foot off the brake. Now, look into the rear win- dow and slowiy, s-l-o-w-l-y back out. When the car is in the street, put one foot back on the brake and shift to drive. That ' s the D ' . Fine. Apply a slow, steady pressure to the accelerator, taking the foot off the brake. Clear? Okay, then let ' s go out to the car and give it a try.
