Mike Schatz was Roosevelt ' s National Merit Scholarship winner this year, and the only winner from Polk County. The award, presented by the National Merit Scholarship Committee, amounts to a maximum of $1,500 a year for four years. Private concerns also make awards to many of the students who are cited as finalists by the committee.
