GARELD JACKSON Vice-Principal Boys ' Advisor • Two full-time jobs are combined in the position of vice-principal and boys ' advisor. Mr. Gareld Jackson handles both jobs, and much more, with the utmost efficiency. For example, Mr. Jackson is officially the coordinator of the sports program, and unofficially he is one of the program ' s most loyal supporters, for he seldom misses a game or any other activity in which Roosevelt students are participating. His varied re- sponsibilities include dealing with disciplinary prob- lems, which he approaches with a firm hand, a win- ning smile, and an uncompromising sense of fairness in all situations. In brief, Mr. Jackson conducts the affairs of a most difficult position in a manner which has won him the respect and confidence of all. MISS GRETTA WOLFE Girls ' Advisor • The great traditions of Roosevelt have special meaning to Miss Gretta Wolfe, girls ' advisor, for she has helped to guide their development. Her sound judgment and wealth of experience make her counsel invaluable in planning a school activity or dealing with a personal problem. Although her duties and inter- ests extend to all classes, Miss Wolfe is particularly helpful to the senior class in planning and organizing the many events leading up to graduation. Her tire- less efforts have helped countless girls to gain admis- sion to the college of their choice or secure gainful employment after graduation. We will be forever grateful for her guidance.

NURSE Directing the school ' s medical program is a demanding task. Mrs. Bridget Sweet is ready to do anything she can to aid (and Band-Aid) Roosevelt students in maintaining health. Her responsible position includes keepin g records of all students, directing physical examinations, admitting absentees, and, of course, helping students who need medical care. SCHOOL BOARD James W. Brammer; Mrs. Charles Cownie; Dr. Floyd M. Burgeson; Herrold V. Mann, Secretary; Mrs. Rolland E. Grefe; Dr. Joh Harris, Superintendent; Joseph Brody; L. L. Daubert, President; Richard W. Lozier. DR. JOHN H. HARRIS Superintendent of Schools • Planning and coordinating the affairs of a rapidly growing school system comprised of over seventy schools is the very difficult task of Dr. John H. Harris, Des Moines ' Superintendent of Schools. It is his responsibility to see that the school system carries out the policies established by the School Board, and that all units of the system function smoothly and effectively. These problems are complicated by the adoption of new programs and methods, such as the advent of television as an instruction medium.
