There being an unusual wealth of vocal talent in the class the Dramatics and Music Departments decided to venture into some- thing more ambitious than the usual Senior Play. The result of their labors, The Red Mill, was produced with great success on May 1. The extremely active calendar nearly crowded out the Senior Frolics, but a determined class and a co-operative faculty combined to present a smash Frolics on the night of April 17. Without a doubt the high point of the Senior activity was attend- ance at the State Basketball Tournament at Iowa City. A large portion of the class went and contributed to the fine record the school made there. SENIOR OFFICERS ROW ONE'-Jeanne Molsberry, Jay Ryan, Barbara Melvin. Sports played an important role in the life of the Juniors, who excelled in all sports, contributing to Roose'velt's fine record of achievements. RooseveZt's Juniors advanced one more step toward independence in that they were allowed to pick their own teachers and schedules, as well as the responsibilities attached to the Junior Theme. Many of the Juniors attended the State Basketball Tournament in which Roosevelt competed for the first time in twenty years. The students who traveled to Iowa City fulfilled their responsibility to the good name of the school, which they left unmarred. The tour- nament was the high point in a useful and happy year for the Juniors. The traditional sophomore party gave the class its first expe- rience of its High School career. The girls became acquainted with one another at the Girls' Club Tea, and the whole class enjoyed the Harvest Dance and after-game open houses. The State Basketball tournament at Iowa City provided an enjoy- able week for the sophomores as well as the rest of the school. The boys proved their ability on the first and second football teams, and brought home the City Series crown in an undefeated season. They placed second in City basketball, and attendance and spirit at the games were exceptional, as in all sports activities. The sophomores swelled the ranks of many clubs, and the Leaders and Sharks added several sophomore girls to their memberships. The sophomore class of ,53 is a large group but they have come to know themselves well. They are an asset to the school and will cer- tainly make a great name for themselves at Roosevelt. An athlete of great promise, he had also participated in music and other school activities, and was one of the most re- spected and best liked boys in school. - In his honor, the 1952 foot- ball squad created the Mike Bognanno Trophy as a per- petual reminder of their friend. The trophy will be awarded each year to the foot- ball squad member who, in the opinion of his teammates, best exemplifies the qualities of sportmanship, leadership, and service for which Mike was honored. He loved to do itg however, the squirrels were perturbed and told the Good Fairy. The Good Fairy realized that little bunnies should not knot tails, so she told the little rabbit that she would turn him into a goon, if she ever caught him doing it again. He took the warning to heart, and stopped knotting' squirrels' tails-for a while. But his habit was too well formed, he couldn't keep his vow. One spring day he saw a squirrel and tied a knot in his little tail. In an instant the Good Fairy flew down to him and said, Now you are a goon! The little bunny cried and cried, saying tohthe Good Fairy, What am I goin' to do? The Good Fairy merely looked at him and said, Well, that's life-5 hare today, goon tomorrow.
