Boys' Golf. and Girls' Golf Mr. Munger received a B.A. degree from Drake University and has taken graduate work at the University of Iowa. Since his coming to Roosevelt in 1935, the Rider swim- ming team has won 86 dual meets, 20 city swimming meets and five state meets. To relax and keep in shape, Clark plays volleyball and handball in addition to swimming. He is married and has one daughter. ARCHIE IOHNSON Football, Basketball, and Track Mr. Iohnson recently celebrated his fifth year at Roosevelt. During this time the football team has won three city series titles. The basketball team has won one championship and last year the track team tied for iirst honors at the State meet. Archie has a B.A. degree from Drake and an M.A. from Columbia University. He is married and has a seven-year-old boy-a prospective Rider gridman. Archie has played collegiate and professional iootball and has coached both. NORMA BECKER Girls' Tennis Miss Becker is Assisted by Miss Anderson Miss Becker has taught at Roosevelt three years and has coached the Girls' Tennis team during that time. Before coming here she taught at North and Woodrow Wilson. She has a B.A. degree from Iowa State Teachers College and some work on an M.A. at Drake. Miss Becker enjoys golf and tennis in her spare time and likes to direct our pep assemblies. She also likes to travel and has been to all states, Mexico and Canada. GUY MICHENER Boys' Tennis In his fourth year at Roosevelt, Mr. Michener has coached tennis for three years. He was previously principal of a Knoxville high school and coached baseball and basketball there. He has a B.A. degree from Penn College and an M.A. irom Drake. Tall Guy likes to make things out ol wood in his complete workshop. He plays ping pong, badminton and tennis. Mr. Michener is married and has two children. WAYNE SMEDES Baseball Wayne Smedes has coached baseball at Roosevelt for two years. Baseball was a wartime casualty here but came back strong a year go. Mr. Smedes is a teacher at Amos Hiatt Iunior High and coaches the Riders after his day there. He has coached football at Des Moines Tech and basketball at Hiatt, but he likes baseball best. Mr. Smedes plays tennis and golf and ofliciates at many basketball games. He is married and has three daughters. CORWIN WALDEN Second Basketball This is Mr. Walden's Iirst year at Roosevelt although he has taught several years in Nebraska high schools. He attended the Nebraska State Teachers College and University ot Nebraska and has both B.A. and M.A. degrees. Mr. Walden has coached high school football, basketball and boxing at Nelson. This was a low week tor the Roughridersf ROOSEVELT ai, NORTH 7 Avenging its previous defeat, Roosevelt trounced North on Oct. 19. Plashy Iim Halliburton ran the distance for tive touchdowns! ROOSEVELT 12, FORT DODGE 20 Ollie Buckner and his mates from Fort Dodge were too much for the Theodores this week. Outstanding defensive play by Bole and Mitchell marked this game in memory. ROOSEVELT 6, EAST 6 The Blue and Whites ended up their season by fighting to a tie with the strong Scarlet aggregation from Lee Township. The Riders still shared in the city series crown as Halliburton tossed the pigskin to Pugh tor the touchdown in the final minutes. All in all, the Rooseveltians had a successful season, winning three, losing three and tying two. They scored a total of 100 points: their opponents scored 125. The most important fact is they never lost two games in a row! They had spirit, skill, drive and ability.
