THE'1945ROUNDUPEFEPEEESEEEEESSE Wfwfw It's hard to believe that the boy you grew up with has been reported killed in action. You stop and think that it seems only yesterday you were out play- ing baseball, or fixing up the old car, or building a tree house, but then that was yesterday. Remember the time he fell out of the tree house and lit in the basket of tomatoes, and the time we had the accident with the A : but then again that was yesterday. It seems as if the years have passed like days, because I can remember so well the day he left for the Air Corps. It was on a hot day and the train was late, but that just gave all of us longer to talk. But like all trains it finally came and that was the last time I saw him. I used to stop to see his mother and kind of cheer her up. She was so proud that her son was doing all he could to help win the war. But that was yesterday. -lack Baldwin. ik Mamma One lived just across the street from me, Another two blocks down. They always lived so happily And seldom did they frown. Robert Tupper was the name of one, A handsome kid was he, I remember that he had such fun, And he even talked to me. He used to kick a football Up into the trees so high, I never dreamed that someday He would learn to fly-and die. The other was a golfer, Marshall Barlow was his name, And once or twice I caddied. While he played a heads-up game. He was just nineteen, that boy, When he learned to fly. None matched his courage, brave and true, And then he had to die. These boys. I guess, are typical Of many others. who Went out to tight and faltered not, To die for me and you! -Iack Jordan l aje Twelve
