On Mav 18 1950 the Class of 54 recelved the1r elghth grade d1plomas-the key to a brand new llfe That nlvht we graduates had a party at the North Crow Creek Club House and everyone learned to dance We consldered ourselves ready to meet anv challenge RHS had to offer us In the fall of 1950 f1fty n1ne freshmen from Ronan Round Butte and Pablo entered the halls of RHS The flrst lmportant 1tem on the agenda was the electlon of offlcers We chose Bette Ann Normandeau to lead us Leonard McCrea to take over 1n her ab ence Dale Dolezal to keep the mlnutes and to collect the money and Mlckey McKenna to represent us 1n Student Councll Then came the dav everyone was waltlng for and dreadmg Freshman In1t1at1on Dressed 1n a rldlculous outf1t we bowed our heads to the mlghty sophomores Later we were honored by a F1 eshman D mnce sponsored by the Sophomores and we returned the favor at the Freshman Return Dance Even as freshmen our class came 1n for thelr share of the honors B111 McGu1re was elected the most valuable player 1n basketball and was a member of the ma1n 5 1n th1s sport Lor1l1e Hefty Bette Normandeau D1ck Tougas and MlCk9y McKenna were tapped for Pep Club members D1ck Tougas and Lor1l1e Hefty were our royal pa1r Pep Club Prlnce and Prmcess Leonard McC1ea and Ellene Ishmael recelved awards for outstandlng scholastlc work The school year was topped off by a p1cn1c at the 4 H Grounds on Flathead Lake under the supervlslon of our advlsors Ed Walker and Mrs Ellzabeth Raymond In 1952 f1fty f1ve sophomores returned to RHS Th1s t1me we elected D1ck Tougas presldent Dale Dolezal NICE presldent Wynette Gatten secretax y treasurer and Phyllls B1l1le student coun c1l representatne On Septembe 21 1952 we galned our revenge 1n1t1ated the freshmen honored them at a dance and were honox ed ln return at thelr return dance B111 McGu1re and Wynette Gatten were tapped as the new Pep Club members from our class PTA awa1ds went to Carol Lmdburg and Leonard McCrea Marllyn Tougas and B111 MCGUIFC were our cand1d1tes for Pep Club Kmg and Queen As sophomores we copped two of the top honors RHS offered when B111 MCGUITC was voted the most valuable player on the football squad and Lor1l1e Hefty was crowned H0m8C0mlDg Queen by the R Club October 26 Our sophomore glrl s basketball team won the lnterclass tourney Mr Francls Auer and Stuart Fltschen w ere our class advlsors We ended the year wlth our annual class p1cn1c at McDonald Lake Our Jun1or year found f1fty four of us returnmg We were upperclassmen at last' Offlcers elected were D1ck Barber presldent Mar1lyn Tcugas vlce presldert Lor1l1e Hefty secretary Shlrley Crawford treasurer Leonard McCrea student councll representatlve New Pep Club members chosen were Dale Dolezal D1ck Barber and Marllyn Tougas D1ck Barber and Wynette Gatten were our Prmce and Prmcess of Pep Shlrley Moody was crowned H0m6COm1Dg Queen vslth Donna Schlele as the other 1un1or can dldate Marllyn Tougas added to our store of honols by belng elected PHA Dlstrlct presldent and later by rotatlon she became State FHA presldent for 1952 54 Shlrley Bauer and Vlfglnla Cullen were candldates for FFA Sweetheart and Bette Norman deau and I or1l1e Hefty were attendants to the Queen of Hearts In November we raffled of a 15 pound turkey and sold school statlonarv to ralse money Early ln the sprlng we selected our class rmg On Apr1l 3rd our 1un1or Engllsh class put out an ISSUG of the Pow Wow The 1un1or boys won the 1nte1 class basketball tourney 'md the glrls walked off w1th second 1n the glrls tourney MISS Bulen dlrected Our Town the yunlor class play whxch was presented Apr1l 20 and 21 Lor1l1e Hefty and Shlrley Crawford were elected to attend Glrls State at D1llon Thelr alter nates were Carol Llndburg and Marllyn Tougas B111 Peterson Leonard McCrea D1ck Tougas and DlCk Barber attended Boys State Don Whlte and B111 McGu1re were thelr alternates The JIIIIIOI' Prom was held Mav 9 the theme belng Lnder the Sea The same theme was carrxed out at the Junlor senlor banquet held May 111n the gym On May 12 15 Junlors a l1ttle under one th11d of our class were 1n1t1ated 1nto the Natlonal Honor Soclety Blll MCGUIFQ was elected co-captaln of the basketball team and voted the most yaluable player for the second tlme Ellene Ishmael and Thora Ann Powell were selected to attend the North 1954 TRAVOIS Page 17 ' , . . . .
