The Romulus Eagles enjoyed a very successful season this year as they won six games and lost one. The Eagles winning streak ended, however, when they lost to Ypsilanti. They had won 23 straight games up until then. In the first game, the Eagles went to Lincoln Park and de- feated them 14 to 0. Then they defeated Melvindale 12 to 7 in a very close game before a large hometown crowd. Next, the Eagles traveled to Ypsilanti and lost their first and only game of the season 18 to 7. This ended their 23 game winning streak. The Eagles, however, got back in the win column as they de- feated Monroe Catholic Central 20 to 6 at Monroe. Then, on homecoming night, the Eagles defeated Bedford 22 to 0. They stopped a Bedford thirteen game winning streak. Ecorse was the next team the Eagles played and they defeated them 13 to 7 in a driving snowstorm in Romulus. In the last game of the season at Belleville, the Eagles de- feated their old rivals, 13 to 6, on a snow-covered field. Ten seniors played their last football game in an Eagle uni- form. They were co-captains, Richard McMann and Kenny McQuaid, Dick Stillwagon, Art Mach, Ray Renke, Jim Haislip, Cliff Schmidt, Ed Gester, Bob Hall, and Steve Baker. No one person was voted the most valuable player by the Eagle team. Alvin Dorow was voted to captain the next year Eagle squad. The Romulus Reserves also enjoyed a very successful season as they won all of their six games. The Romulus Eagles had a very successful basketball season this year as they won all sixteen of their regular season games. They also went to the final game of the district tournament before losing out to Inkster. The Eagles played their first game of the season in Garden City and here they had little trouble as they defeated Garden City by a 49-25 score. Dick Stillwagon led the Eagles as he scored 33 points. Playing their first game in the new Romulus gym, the Eagles managed to down Ford Trade by the close score of 22-20. Stillwagon was high-point man as he racked up 12 points. Next, the Eagles traveled to Monroe to play Monroe Catholic Central. The Eagles had little trouble with the Monroe squad as they downed them 48-30. Dick Stillwagon was again high-point man as he scored 22 points. Returning to their home court, the Eagles downed their old rivals the Belleville Tigers, 35-23. McMann and Stillwagon shared scoring honors as each scored 7 points. The Eagles went to Albion next and here they won another close game, 47-46. The Eagles were led by Stillwagon who scored 23 points. Traveling to Ypsilanti, the Eagles made it 6 straight as they beat Ypsilanti Central 37-26. Dick Stillwagon was high-point man again for the Eagles. Bedford was the next Eagle opponent and the Eagles downed the Mules 40- 21. The Eagles played championship ball and Stillwagon led the Eagles with 11 points. Starting a 5 game home stand, the Eagles triumphed over Wayne, 38-26. Charley Wagenbach scored 13 points to lead the Eagles. Next came Monroe Catholic Central and the Eagles made it two in a row over them as they completely dominated the play. The Eagles were sparked by Stillwagon who scored 10 points. Hillsdale was the next opponent the Eagles played and the Eagles made it 10 straight victories as they beat Hillsdale 53-43. Jim Foley, Bob Bird, Don Glancy, Ken Martin, Bruce Barton. Ypsilanti Central was the next Eagle victim as the Eagles downed them 24-21, Scoring 11 points, Stillwagon led the Eagles to victory. In a return engagement with Bedford, the Eagles again defeated the Mules 41-25. Stillwagon was the big gun for the Eagles as he racked up 15 points. The Eagles sparked by Stillwagon's 20 points, defeated Melvindale in a high-scoring affair, 62-40. Next, the Eagles went to Wayne and here they defeated Wayne for the second time 53-42. The Eagles found the small Wayne gym to their liking and here Stillwagon led the Eagles with 22 markers. Belleville was next for the Eagles and they made it two in a row over the Tigers, 64-49. Stillwagon led the Eagles with 27 points. The Eagles ended their regular season of play by making it 16 straight victories as they downed Ecorse, 34-27. Captain Dick Stillwagon again led the Eagles as he scored 16 Points. Next came the district tournaments and Romulus drew Allen Park for their first game. It was the first time in the school's history that the district tournaments were held in Romulus. The Eagles managed to squeeze out a 30-29 decision over the Parkers. Stillwagon scored 14 points to lead the Eagles. Next the Eagles played Belleville and quickly dashed the Tiger's tour- nament hopes as they trounced over the Tigers, 61-43. Stillwagon and Dawson scored 21 and 18 points respectively for the Eagles. Then came the final game of the district tournaments and the Eagles dropped a tough decision to Inkster, 40-16. By racking up 10 points, Stillwagon led the Eagles in scoring. Six Eagles played their final game in Eagles uniform. They were Captain Dick Stillwagon, Charley Wagenbach, Ray Renke, Norm Baehr, Ken McQuaid and Harry Rusan. Captain Dick Stillwagon was elected as the most valuable Eagle player. Sid Dawson and Eugene Kratt will co-captain the Eagles next year. The Romulus Reserves, under their new coach, Ted Parkhurst, had a dis- appointing season this year as they won only 4 of their 16 games. The Student Council presented a school flag, to be used by the band, at the first pep meeting of the year. In the latter part of October, several members of the council, with Mr. Schantz and Mrs. Makolin, attended a very interesting conference on citizenship in Ann Arbor. The scene was a set in a hotel lobby and the entire play took place in one night. The mystery and humor combined to give a pleasing effect. The trouble began when Mary, the 20 year old daughter of the house, falls for, and intends to marry, Joe Lonconi, the son of a common meat cutter. Romulus competed with four other schools in its de- bate league this year on the topic: Resolved that all American citizens should be subject to conscription for essential service in time of war. The other schools com- peting were: Dearborn Roosevelt, Adrian, U. of D. High School, and Plymouth. The Romulus teams 1 Fran Schooley and Jimmie Laughlin, affirmative, Rosie McFadden and Harvey Versteeg, negative 5 ended the season with four wins and four losses. Each debate ended in a split, the Romulus affirmative winning and the negative taking a loss. Practice debates were held with Inkster, Trenton, and Wayne. The other members of the debate squad are: Christine Mueller and Bob Rose, affirmative, Jeannie Hoppe, Uwe Hinrichsen, and Art Dittmar, negative.
