CLASS POEM To Romulus Central we owe all our thanks For teachlng us rlght from wrong And for acting as a rlver bed To gulde our pathway along As the years have gone by IH our hlghschool llfe Many problems we have met Wlth work and toll we have conquered each As the rushlng r1ver wlnds lts way along To fm ly reach the ocean We have struggled and fmally reached Our goal Graduatlon But as we look ahead to our future hves, We know not what we Wlll flnd We wlll have to depend on what we have learned To gulde us Wllll open mmd Sherwln Temple 7 Never failing-that is, yet! - 7 CLASS HISTORY As lt nears the tlme for our blg step Into the fu ture we fondly cast our thoughts upon the mem orles we have brought with us through the years Some bring a tear to our eye and some a smlle to our llps but all are cherished as the moments that made our school days happy days Of the thirty one of us 11 began thelr school careers here ln Romulus We wlll admxt that not all of us wanted to start school that September day ln 194-4 but we drled our eyes and commenced our twelve years The next turning polnt ln our careers at Romulus was the Seventh grade when we were fmally ln Jumor Hlgh That was the year that Sampson opened and we were to welcome many sons and daughters of the Air Base to our energetlc class durmg the next slx years Mrs Backlund was our advlsor and through her understanding and able ness we were orlentated to the ways of hrgh school 1 e Our blg step was the day we became Freshmen Our 1Illtl8tl0I'l brmgs memorles of baby clothes bottles and shouts of Alr Rald that sent us scrambllng to the floor How often now we laugh at our pllght that day just as upperclassmen stopped to laugh and tease then It was fun even wlth lts embarasslng moments and we cherlsh It as one of our fondest memorles Stlll we are glad It happened only durmg our Freshman year we could never tolerate such a thmg now as SCHIOTS when we re so much older and so dlgnlfled We launched our flrst successful money l'3lSlI'lg project that year our bake sale at Sampson Fel lows as well as glrls got out thelr aprons and mlx mg bowls and proved thelr cullnary abxlltles Oh the dellcacles that were produced by these young chefs' Blg round chocolate cakes tantallzlng ples tender C00klCS and cup cakes drlpplng wlth pmk frosting There s no need to tell what a success our sale was but we proudly returned home trlumph ant and made the flrst deposlt to the account of the Class of 56 The next year we puffed out our chests llfted our heads and 1mp0SCd 1n1t1at1on upon the green llttle Frosh They tled thelr halr ln little rags car rled our books pushed peanuts across the gym floor and felt every but as sllly as we dnd ln our mfants apparel They all agreed that the party that nlght and others we held later were not to be matched A b1t of dandy showed m every one at our Sophomore Soc Hop when each appeared ln foot apparel ranglng from brlght red wool to polka dots Our hearts were llght that nlght and so were our feet as we sllpped across the floor ln our socks We had a new advlsor thls year who was to be not only our advisor but our friend and constant workmg companion for our three remamlng years of hlgh school Miss Neubert s Oflglnal ldeas splced our class projects and fame Although sometimes we were a wee blt neglectful ln our dutxes she never let us down ln our ,lunlor year we started a new tradltlon a .lunlor play at Romulus Mr Seaman and Mr Bloomer dlrected us ln Arsemc and Old Lace to whlch the crowd roared wlth hllarlty By pro duclng a play ln one month we also set a record for the amount of tlme taken for preparing a play at Romulus tuntll our Senlor playl Our next excltxng project was the Senior Ball wlth whlch the ,lumors always honor the Seniors We chose February 12 as the date and called lt the Sweetheart Ball lm sure every one agrees that decorating and makmg preparations that Saturday mornmg was just as much fun as the dance that n ght We made a complete roof above our heads wlth red and whlte streamers and covered the walls wxth blg red hearts and sllhouettes of young mas ter Cupld We made hlgh whlte thrones for thelr Majestles the King and Queen of the Ball and cov ered the llghts so they would beam softly on the floor In short we transformed the gym mto a vlrtual paradlse It was another spectacular hlt for the class of 56 With the Senlor trlp closer 1n slght we began another money maklng project the sale of sta tlonery Burstlng wlth enthuslasm we formed teams and set off to peddle our wares the agreement be mg that the teams selllng the most would be given a party by the others The outcome?
