In Memory of MISS ELIZABETH HARRIS For her long and dexoted service to Rome Hlgh School the memory of MISS Ellzabeth Harrls wlll long be cherlshed 1n the hearts of many students MISS Harrls dxed Monday Iuly 9 1945 She was a slncere klnd and los al frlend and she took a llvely Interest ln all the affalrs ofthe school untll the tlme of her death MISS Harrls the youngest of a large famlly of chlldren was born at her home m South Rome and llved there unt11 1945 She attended Rome Hlgh and Shorter College Belng graduated 1n the class of 1898 she was edltor ln chief of the first Shorter annual to be publxshed About 190s her teachlng career began when she asslsted ln teachmg ID her slster s prlvate school ln East Rome In 1919 MISS Harms became a llcensed teacher and ln the years following taught ln Douglasvllle Marletta and Vldalla She returned to Rome ln 1927 at whlch tlme she began teachlng ln the Rome system At Glrls Hxgh MISS Ellzabeth was always admlred because of her lntelllgence and especlally her w1de knowledge of hlstory She loved hlstory and taught It for many years When one of her students had a questlon m mlnd she could rest assured that MISS Elxzabeth would be able to answer It For several years she took an active part ln the tralmng of the JUHIOI' debators She enjoyed most of all puttmg on varlous plays and chapel programs some of whlch were lnformatlve some entertalnmg MISS Harrls was a charter member of the Nlberlung Club presldent ofthe local and general Shorter Alumnae Assoclatlons a member of the Amerlcan Assoclatlon of UHlV6FSltV Women and a leader of the women s soclety of her church She became a member ofthe South Rome Presbvterxan Church as a young girl and served lt falth fully throughout her llfe Her home play ed a great part ln her llfe and as a result MISS Ellzabeth acquired an excellent taste for housekeeplng and home decoratlon ln her home can be found many costumed dolls and soap models that were made by her hlstory students and gn en to her She wlll be remembered for her hospltallty graclousness and charm All these things she loxed home friends work She falled ln none of them Mlss Harrls made a real contrlbutxon to our school life and her loss IS deeply felt U U ' K in , ' '7 1 Y , 1 J ' . . 7 . . 7 v Y , , - - , Y I ' and taught continuously until her death.
