Gm cal ,A W, W1th excltement IH our hearts and a look of anxlety on our faces we gathered OUtSld6 G1rls Hxgh School ready to begxn a new adventure of lxfe Hlgh School seemed strange and exc1t1ng to us even though we had been gomg to school for seven long years As we gazed at the many new faces about us we began to wonder what the next four 1mportant years held for us and who among these people would soon be our best frlends Our first year was filled wlth study as very few clubs were open to freshmen Most of us were actlve ln the Glee Club and many Jolned the Band There IS one 1nc1dent that wlll always l1ve ln our memorles On December 3 1941 at one thlrty oclock we marched mto chapel and heard h1story IH the makmg As we hstened to Presldent Roosevelt make an appeal to Congress to declare war we were thlnklng of how war would affect our communlty l1fe and our own 1nd1v1dual l1ves Thls meant that many of our fathers and brothers would soon be servlng the country at th1s crucxal tlme Every student reallzed that th1s would mean sacrllice pr1vat1on and heartache We have plunged 1nto all the drlves purchased war stamps and bonds and glven t1m and blood to the Red Cross We have strlven to F3156 hlgher standards among all the glrls and m every way posslble make our lxves more serrous mmded In our second year we really felt our lmportance because we were no longer the lowest class At long last we could be looked up to A sxgn was even placed at the end of the hall for freshmen Speed L1m1t 25 as several had been seen runmng at top speed to classes Three students from Cooper Hall Jomed our class as sophomores Several glrls were adm1tted to the Latm Club and many made basketball thelr mam act1v1ty We looked forward to a Jumor year full of study and act1v1ty and Wlth hard work and plenty of coordmatxon we were determmed to make lt a successful one Thls was the year we had to choose our course of study Many chose Academxc studxes whxle others turned to Home Economlcs and Commerclal Courses If you had peered mto any of these class rooms you would have seen many busy fingers those learnlng to cook and sew and others trymg thelr sklll at the typewrlter and shorthand The Band was kept very busy part1c1pat1ng m patrlotxc parades and playmg for bond ralhes Several out of town tr1ps were made to plants recelvlng Army and Navy awards We were thrllled and yet sobered too as we reached our senlor year We settled down to hard study and the busy year before us Many clubs were opened to us such as the Tr1 H1 Y Roman Staff Scrlbblers and French Club Two new clubs were orgamzed the Commerclal Club and the Blology Club The Senlor Class of 1945 IS proud of the contrlbutlons they have made to the Student Honor System N1ne of xts members made up the Student Councll Councll membership IS one of the hxghest honors that can be bestowed on a student Tune has swlftly passed It seems only yesterday that we sat ln those freshmen classes and dreamed of the gay partles that accompany senlor year and most of all dreamed of graduatnon Today It IS here We are prepared to meet the challenge that the world may offer us We do not know what IS 1n store for each of us but we w1ll greet the day Wlth a smlle on our lxps and rn our hearts a longmg for old Rome I-hgh Kathryn Myrlck 1 . . , . . . , 3 ' 9 . , . . . 7 Y , . 1 1 -9 . aa - - as 1 1 v , . 1 ' ' 1 1 r - , .
