Quigg Marines Snapa ako 'X A Hi M 1 'i Es euiew Under the tutelage of Coach Davis, a newcomer to the Rome Faculty, the Hilltoppers en- joyed another successful football season. Despite several early season wins, the Romans were none too impressive until mid-season when reserve material and mastery of the T formation really be- gan tipping the scales in favor of the Blue and Gold. The highlight of the season came when they met and defeated their annual Turkey Day rivals the Cedartown Bulldogs. The Bulldogs brought to town a victory-studded season and a mighty grid machine that had ridden roughshod over all opposition. The Bulldog howled snarled and roared into the game to grab an early first period lead only to have the Hilltoppers lash him into submission before a frenzied crowd by the tune of 19-6. Thanksgiving evening found a jubilant Hilltopper aggregation taking stock of themselves and a rugged ten-game schedule and placing themselves out in front with six wins and four losses High honors among the backfield go to Eddie Henderson whose ball carrying counted heavily when the chips were down and whose defensive play was always good and to the diminutive Dudley Sheppard whose plain and fancy ball tot1n brought Barron Park to its feet time and time again With twenty three points to his credit and sixty minutes of performance per game Herbert Pruitt was an easy standout among the linemen Basketball always somewhat of a satellite to football was none the less packed with thrills that kept gym crammed crowds coming back for more M1ss Watkins also serving her first year as coach whipped into shape a high geared aggregation that stepped to the tune of eleven wins two losses and one tie The sharp eye of Fletcher coupled with the precise passing of Dawes and Banister accounted for the blitz offense while Moulton Pennington and Battey at Guards throttled the opponents The Boys while not quite so impressive in the win column did themselves proudly by turn 1ng in nine wins to five defeats three of which were by a single goal Johnny Bryant Washington and Ellis bore the offensive brunt well while Clarence Bryant Worsham and Henderson alter nated at the defensive posts Viewed from any point spectator administrator coach or athlete the year 1944 45 despite the stress of War was one to be remembered in the annals of Roman history So Its rah rah for Rome High ' SCIDBES joozlaf Rome Centre J V SCORES S322 51228: Rome Lindale Rome North Fulton Home Lmdale Rome G M A Rome Tubxze Rome La Grange Rome Central Rome Commercial Home Cedartown Rome Collinsville Rome CFW9 Spring Rome Cedartown Rome Tubize Rome Cedartown gaadefdaf GIRLS BOYS Rome Rockmart Rome Rockmart Rome Marietta Rome Marietta Rome McHenry Rome McHenry Rome Carrollton Rome Carrollton Rome Model Rome Model Rome Acworth Rome Acworth Rome Cartersville Rome Cartersville Rome Acworth Rome Acworth Rome Rockmart Rome Rockmart Rome Carrollton Rome Carrollton ROHM?
