AFS Students Teresa Zivec, an American Field Service student, came to Rome from Pordenone, Italy, which is near Venice. At home, she lives with her mother, father, and three sisters. This year she will be staying with Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Heaney and her host sister Karen. Teresa is a senior here at Rome Free Academy and is seventeen years old. Her interests are canoeing, camping, and horseback riding. She is also con- cerned with world problems. Teresa would love to cross-country ski, ice skate, and travel around the United States so she can improve her English which is already excellent. Making new friends is also important to her. As a senior, Teresa is taking sociology, family and child, American History, health and English. Some of these courses are not offered in the school she at- tends in Italy. Teresa has found that she likes Ameri- can food, especially corn on the cob. She isn’t that fond of our Italian food because she says it isn't really Italian. Chris Ratcliffe is this year’s male American Field Service exchange student. He lives in Shrewsbury, which is near the Welsh border in Central England. Chris lives on a farm with his Mum, Dad, and sister. For this year he will be staying with the James Kehoe family and his host brother Chris. As soon as Chris arrived in America, he got involved in many activities. He went to the community the- ater and auditioned for a part in the play “Whose Life is it Anyway?” His English accent along with his acting ability won him a part as a punk xylophone player. Chris also earned a position on the boy’s soccer team. In school Chris is taking a rigorous schedule which includes calculus, physiology, drama, and American History. Chris’ first two months here have been very busy. He seems to enjoy life in America and has only a slight difference in language. For example, he calls a truck a lorry and a soccer match is called football. These differences will cause no problems and Chris is settling in for a good year.
