emories and collections 1982 Do you remember: Your kindergarten maple leaf pressed in a book? Colorful drawings from elementary school taped on the refridgerator door? Love notes from that special person in junior high school? Ticket stubs from basketball games? How precious these moments were. Now they’re pages in your scrapbook of memories Waiting for the conversation that will bring them back to life again. As the years pass, Our collection becomes more mature. We graduate from our childhood collections of bugs and shells. To the collections of friends and memories of our adult years. There is a wide variety of these challenging games like Waterloo, Squad leader, and Panzer Biitz. “Both wargames and D D's are played with paper, pencils, dice, and lots of imagination,”’ explains President David DiBari. On December 12, the Club held its second annual Wargames Convention called Knightcon Ii. D D'ers from all over the coun- try met at RFA to test their skill and luck. Knightcon Il was a great success. This event sponsored by the Senior Class cleared up many ques. tions that students had. Participants had the opportunity to talk with 114 college representatives. Many of the questions concerning curriculum, tuition, scholarships, grants, and dormitory living were answered. This night eased many worried minds and got students off on the right foot for college preparation. HOMECOMING WEEKEND Homecoming Weekend started off with a Section Ill soccer game. Baldwinsville handed the RFA Booters a close 2-1 loss. Following the soccer game was the an- nual bonfire sponsored by the Pep Club. The Senior Varsity Football players and cheerleaders presented each other with gags that brought laughs and cheers from the crowd. Unexpectedly, Coach Myslinski showed up to lead the cheers. He shouted to the crowd, “Who are we gonna beat? The tempo picked up. Fans cheered louder and louder, ‘‘Notre Dame, Notre Dame!”’ Friday night's game was very special as the parents of the football players were honored. For a touching moment they proudly stood on the field that was soon to be the scene of a runaway game. The Knights de- feated Notre Dame, 52-0. The Marching Band and Cheerleaders provided en- tertainment that carried the crowd's spirit through the Float Competition. Countless hours and last minute pan ic paid off, as the colorful floats were shown. First a Sophomore Ghost, then a Junior Red Devil, and last a Senior Graveyard Scene slowly paraded around the stadium. The Seniors won the float competition. The next event announced the Homecoming Queen and King. The happy couple was Kim Ciotti and Jeff Panara. Their attractive court: Jackie Orbinati escorted by Bill Jarvi, Maria Orbinati escorted by Dean Rivera, Jamie Pomilio escorted by Steve Feldman, and Gina Grasso escorted by Dan Rivera. The court reigned at the Halloween Costume Dance the next evening, spon- sored by the Key Club, and “Legal Tender provided the tunes. October 31st made it that special Halloween night. What a weekend! It's a weekend that students will remember in years to come. The only difference is that next year, these students will be alumnus. SPIRIT WEEK To heighten our spirit for Homecoming Weekend, the Stu- dent Association sponsored our annual Spirit Week. During this week, faces were painted and transformed. Masks were worn and costumes and clothes of yesterday were taken out of storage. It was funny to see punk rock stars seated in a serene histo- ry Class, or Cowboys and Indians in the locker rooms. Gang. sters from the Roaring '20’s were seen serving detentions after school. The greatest display of spirit was shown on Orange and Black Day. Orange and black colors were seen every: where. Students had orange faces, lips, skirts, sneakers and even hair. Our school was psyched for the weekend. 139 Capt. Dean Rivera Amidon, Chris 4st Row: Mor. Mike Hoke, Head Coach Tom Hoke, Mgr. Affer an easy win over Auburn, the Knights were struck with a 21-20 defeat by West Genesee. Ten fumbles, two interceptions, and 45 yards in penalties left RFA embarrassed, but more determined than ever to pull together and win the rest of their games. The loss had dropped them to 12th in the poll, but they wouldn't stay there long. They became an un- beatable team! Game after game the Black Knights came out on top. A win that night would give the RFA players a chance to return to the Dome the following week and get their long awaited revenge on West Genesee. This was extra incentive for RFA to crush Henninger. And crush they did. The Knights dominated the game, holding Henninger to 64 yards rushing and 72 yards passing, while piling up 33 points themselves. The final score was 33-6. Sunday, November 22. The big day had finally arrived. The West Genesee Wild Cats came to the Dome armed with a state ranked band, lots of signs, and many fans. However, Rome wanted the win more. Again the Knights dominated the game, winning 22-6. Suddenly the RFA players found them- selves not only first in the Section, but also first in the State! Ironically, after losing their first place spot to West Genesee early on in the season, the Black Knights went on to regain their title by defeating West Genesee. Yes, re- venge sure was sweet. Under the leadership of co- captains Bill McCormick and Steve Gigliotti, the Mermen post- ed one of their best showings ever against perennial state power Liverpool. They placed second in the Section Ill Championship and defeated tenth ranked Auburn. Senior Jim Potocki went on to the state meet in the 100 Fly. At the East- ern Swim Championship, our freestyle and mediey relay teams placed tenth and eleventh respectively. The Divers also had an exceptional year with three out of four divers qualifying for sectional competition. Our Girls’ Varsity Swimming and Diving Team got off to a slow start this year, mainly due to the fact that there was no water in the RFA pool. The ‘‘Naiads ’ were still practicing in the N.Y.S.S.D. pool after their meet schedule had started. De- spite this inconvenience, the members put in a 3-8 duel meet record, and sent 15 swimmers to the Section Three Championships. In the Section Ill tournament Laughinghouse, Joe and Vinny Fiorenza, Howery, and Tosti went as the five-man team to represent RFA. Michael Carro and Angelo Fulgieri went as alternates. The team finished with a 30 game total that averaged about 184. That was good enough for a third place finish behind winners Whitesboro and runner-up Fulton. Tosti and Joe Fiorenza rolled two of the top seven scores for the day and qualified for the all-star team. Tosti’s total of 1199 earned him the second spot on the team just 20 pins shy of first place. Fiorenza totaled 1184 and earned the last spot on the team. Coach Martha Bilton had an easy time as the girls usually beat their opponents by six or seven hundred pins.
