A brilliant bonfire fol- lowed, and then the evening climaxed with a dance featuring Alecstar. Friday night, our Black Knights defeated Notre Dame's Jugglers 10-6. At half-time Sandy Moake was named Homecoming Queen. Kelly Recchio, Ozen Bicakci, Wanda Watson and Kathy McDonald were selected as her court. Keeping with the Weekend's theme, each of RFA's three classes designed its float as a circus animal. The senior class’ pink elephant and friend won first prize. The juniors made a giraffe and the sophomores a seal. ‘‘You Light Up My Life’’ was chosen as the theme song for the semi-formal held in the decorated Boy’s Gym. The Queen and her court were escorted by John DiBari, Tom Moore, Brian Biamonte, Tom Zmudosky, and Mark Bottini respectively. The National Bel lamy Award was founded in 1942 by Dr. Margarette Miller who confirmed that Francis Bellamy was author of the Pledge of Allegiance. The purpose of the award is to pro- mote patriotism among America’s youth As representative of New York at the National Ceremo- nies, Caroline spoke on ‘‘Extremism as a Means of Justif- ying Liberty.’’ Caroline spent her time in Princeton, West Virginia attending and speaking at presentations, confer- ences and banquets, and toured much of the Southern portion of the state. Demonstrations of chemical and physical prop- erties are given frequently and much has been learned from them. A trip to R.P.I. (Rensselaer Poytechnic Institute), also on the agenda, proved most fruitful. Plans for further excursions are bound to be forthcoming and their scientist Mr. Uvanni informs the club that the project to split the atom has been postponed. 173 mi Ul alle) a @i-l-t-m Oli iler-) a ly ; Latteda Clopheerrar [vary ¢ Pirtvietletwske t len Kelly Secretary Vie President Treasurer President As we entered our “half-way” year, we continued to show our high spirited and team effort feelings that we started off with last year. We opened the year with another fine class effort, our class float. In keeping with the theme, ‘Under the Big Top,’ the Juniors rode in with a brightly colored circus wagon, complete with a giraffe popping out. We put a lot of time and effort on our float this year, and it really showed. This started us off on the right foot. Our next big event was to put on the RFA Talent Show. “Cabaret RFA’ was the name, giving it a nightclub atmosphere. We would like to thank Mr, Mickler for all his help in helping us put on a successful talent show. Then of course, our Junior Prom which we hope will be a great success. Other projects for the remainder of the year are still being plan- ned. | would like to thank all the Students and Mr. Jacobowitz, our advisor, for all their help and sup.- port they gave the class of 1979 through out the year. As we Seniors near the end of our high school days, each of us should look back and recollect the memories of the past years at RFA. It seems like only yesterday when we were sophomores trying to get started. Now we are seniors and just as enthusiastic as we were two years ago. With all the opportunities to become involved, we hope you took advantage and had a part, whether it was in class activities, club activities or sports. If you did the memories should be precious to you in the years to come. Even if involvement wasn't your objective, | hope you are just as proud to be a member of the class of 1978 as | am. Let's hope that our learning years at RFA have given us a headstart for the future. There are two special people we are grateful to, Mr. Dean Woodard and Mrs. Helen Arthur for their dedication and guidance to our class. Wanda Watson President a Stass Through bad and good times, Student Association seems to always make it through. This year our student government was run differently. Instead of the five directors, it was comprised of the ordinary President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Trea- surer. Homeroom representatives were elected and frequent meetings were held to discuss current projects and plans. Student Association coordinated the big week-ends of the year such as, Homecoming and Winter Weekend. It officiated over clubs and organizations and planned events like the Todd Hobin Dance. There is a lot to be gained from STASS and we'll be hearing a lot from it in the coming years. Officers this year were: President, Lori Frasca; Vice- President, Caroline Hayden; Secretary, Debbie Miller; and Treasurer, Ann Dollard. It is at Rome Free Academy and it is for everyone in RFA. That includes you. STASS tries to help the school in every way possible. It backs up clubs that may be financially in trouble, helps sponsor dances, Homecoming and Winter Weekends and other fun activities. It's RFA’s student government and the place to voice your opinions. STASS is a good thing to get involved in so that you are always on top of the scene of events. You will be able to form and participate in the events that you want planned. Make sure you get involved in STASS. This year’s officers were: Lori Frasca — President Caroline Hayden — Vice Pres. Debbie Miller — Secretary Ann Dollard — Treasurer STASS! Although we will not be here next year, we hope Student Association achieves and aspires in many great things. It has the power to do much only if this power is executed. Good Luck to everyone in RFA next year and especially to the seniors who graduate in '78. May you all lead happy lives ahead of you!
