Echo The R.F.A. newspaper almost died this year. The organization, which had won many awards in its relatively short exis- tence, suffered great setbacks at the start of the year. The first problem was the loss of financial backing by the Board of Edu- cation. 1 he students were under greater pressure to get ads for the paper. The Echo also lost its homeroom, which had served in past years as a school-time central dis- patching office. A seven-week absence of Mr. Kan, the club's advisor, and the prob- lems in trying to find a printer for the paper all contributed to the delay in publi- cation. However, the staff's core never gave up and were still making an effort right through April. Co-Editors-in-Chief Roger fielding and Norm Sturdevant led the stu- dents in their drive to keep the Echo going. The Black Student Union, formerly the Black History Club, continued its service of providing interested stu- dents the opportunity to learn about Black culture. The Union, guided by- Mr. West, became a charter member of the N.A.A.C.P. this year. The leaders of the Union were Mike Boyd, President; Curtis Wadlington, Vice President; Vicki Boyd, Secretary; and Pat Boykin, Treasurer. Row 1 Dick Quattro, John DiBari, Bob Marriott.
