Special Education The special education class is located in the stage workshop. It is a self-contained classroom for grades ten through twelve. Subjects taught are English, social studies, math, science, and occupational education. Located there is a TV, typewriter, sewing machine, and record player along with the usual classroom equipment. There is also a reading and crafts area. Driver’s Education The goal of Driver Education is to teach students to drive more safely. Home Economic Mrs. Franchine, Mrs. Pritchard The Home Economics courses offered at Rome Free Academy are child development, manage- ment, sewing, and nutrition. This program is designed to help youth and adults to be effective members of their families and community. Mr. Rice, Mr. Weisenburger Mrs. Irla Industrial Arts The Industrial Arts courses offered at R.F.A. are machine shop, metals, wood- working, electronics, general electricity, power mechanics and automotive shop. These classes are offered as part of the student's entire education, not as voca- tional training.

Miss Demers, Miss Cullen Coach Simmon, Coach Evans Girl’s Physical Education The Physical Education curriculum for all the girls consists of basketball, vol- leyball, gymnastics, dance, and recrea- tional games. The sophomore girls are also taught field hockey and track and field. Juniors learn how to handle a bow and arrow, and they play softball. The seniors, in addition to the required sports, develop their skills in lifetime sports such as golf and tennis. Pool is taken once a week by all be- ginners, and taken weekly for one sem- ester by all intermediate and advance swimmers. Co-ed classes in scuba diving, life saving and competitive swimming are offered to advance swimmers. This course is designed to keep the student active and to condition the body and improve the posture. During the first part of every gym period cal- isthenics are done, and every year Phy- sical Fitness tests are given. Sophomores and juniors are taught football, soccer, wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics, bas- ketball, track and field, and softball.
