Mr. Mickler, Mr. Ruby Mrs. Downing, Mr. Rich The English Department at Rome Free Academy helps to enrich each student’s knowledge through reading and study. Aside from mastering grammar, each student is required to read certain works of literature during the year. Sophomores and juniors read short stories and plays, novels and poems. All seniors are required to take Practical Writing, Speech or Literature at the regents level, English Literature at the scholarship level, and English IV at the non-regents level. The diversity of each English course widens the intellectural horisons of students, challenging them to seek, and thus, to learn. Mrs. Watters

History Teachers The History Department here at Rome Free Academy strives to develop a know- ledge of past civilizations and cultures in order to help each student better un- derstand our present society. Sophomores and juniors take World History and American History respec- tively. For seniors, history becomes an elective subject. Offered in the twelfth year are government, sociology and economics. The aims of the history department are to help us to become more responsible citizens and to be able to cope with our ever-changing world.
