Be- sides the usual fiction and non-fiction, a whole case in the library is devoted to Shakespeare’s writings, another contains college catalogs, and the classroom in the back contains the colorful oversized books which are too large for the shelves in the main library room. Bernice Hirtenstein, Anne Imler TEACHER AIDES A. Gualtieri, J. Volk, F. Sager, B. Eldred, J. Patchen, R. Argenzia The teachers aides keep our cast in line. They prevent running and shouting in the halls, see to it that no one loiters after dismissal, and make sure that students on lunch period don’t disturb those still in class. INTERMISSION: REFRESHMENTS A. Argenzia, C. Beckwith, R. Myrick, M. Mosca, R. Ferrare, P. DeMarco, A. Pettinelli, A. Garafalo, K. Herrington — Manager, A. Bertone During the lunch intermission, these ladies provide hungry students with nutritious refreshments. The lines are long, there is no music or candlelight, and the menu is somewhat limited, but the prices aren’t bad and the company is great! CUSTODIANS The custodians take care of maintenance after our perfor- mances. They help students whose lockers won’t open, un- lock secret storeroom doors, fix broken windows, turn down thermometers, and move desks when necessary. They also repair any materials and equipment which breaks as a result of hard use by the students. Jack Nichols, Oscar Beers, Jim Campbell “IT never let them cough. This year the choir has performed the Mozart “Requiem” and two other major choral works, “Psalm 150” by Jan Bender and “The Infant Jesus” by Buxtehude. Performances include annual Christmas appearances on WKTV and WIBX radio, and in concert at the Candlelight Con- certs held at the First Presbyterian Church. The annual spring concert is open to the public. Many members of the choir have achieved the highest ratings at NYSSMA Festivals. Many members of the choir later become members of college choirs and glee clubs and church and community groups. SOPHOMORE CHOIR The Sophomore Chorus, directed by Mr. Moonan, is an elective course which offers a full credit for partici- pating. An ill-timed incubation of the measles? The courageous capture of a stowaway? Yes, all these events added laughter to the hilariously funny Senior Class play, “Our Hearts Were Young and Gay.” On November 20, an ecstatic audience sat on the edges of their seats (or rolled on the floor) and watched the insane antics of Kiki Adolfi and Beth McDonald as they portrayed Cornelia Skinner and Emily Kimbrough, two zany girls sailing to France. When finally in France, the girls encounter almost in- credible situations as Cornelia tries to become an actress and Emily stands by with the moral support. The two hour comedy was a stupendous success as those who attended emerged feeling undoubtedly, a little more “young and ” gay. ° nop rane ® we “T came here in Rome, New York in July and spent time during summer vacation with my host family. When summer has gone and Autumn has come, I have been here in RFA. After falling leaves season passed by, then snow started to drift, Winter has come. How | was thinking about the hard time that was coming, the time for closing books, the time for saying goodbye to all nice friends the time to leave away, and that would be the time of spring. Also I would never forget everything here in Rome and RFA. The good time of Swimming in pool, studying, watching games, selling Echoes, skiing and talking with friends. I loved to study in RFA with all young Ameri- cans, with all helpful and nice teachers. These experiences would be a kind of my everlasting remembrance. For each day that I spent here, I gradually learned and understood American people. The way of life, the way of thinking which I have never learned before. People in Rome have been so nice to me, they kept me in touch with heart and how can I forget!” Kate Wongachariya “An AFS experience is something quite unbelievable and almost undescribable. For me it was learning to eat rice at two meals everyday, trying to understand all of my fam- ily (except my sister Farzin) and everyone else who spoke nothing but Farsi (the Iranian lan- guage), but most important, learning about myself and understanding and loving people just as they are. “l stayed for 10 weeks with a fantastic fam- ily in the capital of Iran, Tehran. | had 4 sis- ters and 1 brother. The first night I went to my family after orientation meetings, I was completely shocked to find to find that my sixteen-year-old sister was the only one who knew even a little English. At first this pre- sented a slight problem, but after a while it really was fun sitting around with everyone speaking a different language and trying to understand them. After the first few days with my family, my sisters showed me around the city, and from then on I was in love with Iran and everything about it. “Twice during the summer my family took me out of Tehran visiting. Once we went to a mosque Mohalat Abigot, and another time we went to the Caspian Sea. I had a really great experience, too, when we visited a family friend in a village, and she taught me how to make a Persian rug. “Of course leaving my family and all the great friends I had made was very hard to do . When we went to the airport the day | left, we fit 17 people into the car. But the greatest part of my experience is that even though my summer in Iran is over, what I learned grows more and more each day.” — Debby Anken FALL WEEKEND L’HISTOIRE a ia © 2. = a UNDERCLASSMEN UNDERCLASSMEN Pat Woodward — Treas. Mark Frank — Pres. Corin Coleman — Sec Anita Favata — Vice Pres. The sophomore class left its mark on this year’s story of Rome Free Academy. The officers of the class of ‘73 were President Mark Frank, Vice President Anita Favata, Secretary Corin Coleman and Treasurer Pat Wood- ward. Our “extras” conducted a very successful Thanksgiving Drive. When the sophomores decorated the building at Christmas time, we were all filled with the holiday spirit. CARPET 262 West Dominick Street Rome, New York 337-8906 In a free country, a newspaper is a teller of truth. It tells millions of people what has happened or what may happen. In this way, these millions learn what they need to know to keep their country strong and free. In our country, the job of the newspaper is so important that the men who founded our nation said in the Constitution: Newspapers are to be free — free to tell the truth about anybody or anything. It had to be this way so that you, too, might be free. Because one of its jobs is to keep you free, your newspaper is interested in you. You may be too young to vote or to get married, but you are not too young to be a part of your newspaper, or for it to be a part of you. It may have printed something about when you were born, It is always eager to know what happens to you and what you think. You can write to its editor, telling what you believe about any subject of general interest. (Examples: Should school be kept open 11 months a year? Should your city have more recreation areas for young persons?) If it’s a good letter, your newspaper will print it so that all the readers can know how you think. your ROME DAILY SENTINEL is uverested in you STAR BEVERAGE CO.
