Foster Business i Joseph Hickey, Chairman While all high school courses of study offer widening horizons and enjoyment, a business course also offers a sound basis for the future. Under Mr. Joseph Hickey’s leadership, the business education department of RFA builds an excellent foundation for prospective salesmen, businessmen, and secretaries. To develop commercial talent, courses offered at RFA include Typewriting |, Il, and Ill; Shorthand | and Il; Salesmanship; Business Arithmetic; and Business Management. Because busi- ness growth is continually increasing, further courses are offered in Transcription; Secretarial Training; Bookkeeping | and II; Business Law; Office Practice; and Data Processing. New courses added this year include Personal Typing, Store Experience, and Distribution |. Personal Typing, a % year-'% unit course, gives the college bound student an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of typing. Store Experience, counting a half unit per semester, allows a student to receive credit for work in an approved retail, wholesale, or service establishment. Dis- tribution | offers a one-year course in the phases of retailing to those who haven't previously taken Salesmanship or Business Management. Data Processing Fred Dair The stillness of the RFA Li- brary was disturbed this year by the rhythmic pounding of re- modeling. Although it now holds 86 students, the library still needs additional shelf space for more than 3,000 books. As well, Mrs. Helen Arthur and Mrs. Marjorie Mortis, our dedicated librarians, have built up a col- lection of books to supplement every student's curriculum. The Data Processing Department serves an administrative purpose, saving many hours of clerical work for teachers and guidance coun- selors. Student attendance, grade reports, and material inventory are some of the functions handled in this department. One of the major projects carried out is student scheduling for the fall semester, the spring semester, and the summer session. After all the informa- tion is punched on cards, it takes only minutes for the computer to schedule all the students at RFA. Last spring it took seven minutes, and this fall twenty-two minutes. Mr. Dair, Director of the Data Processing Department in the Rome Public School System, introduced this modern program in 1964. As- sisting him are Mrs. Ruth Lyman, key punch operator, and Mr. Victor Elliott, tab machine operator. Library Helen Arthur Marjorie Mortis
